Season 19 of The Real Housewives of Orange County has been dynamic to say the least. One of the more emotional aspects of the season has been Emily Simpson and her son. Now, the RHOC star is clarifying previous comments about his ability to read.
As fans know, Emily has also been open about Luke’s eating disorder. She revealed that he was diagnosed with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), which, as the name suggests, causes him to only eat certain foods. This has been documented both on the show and in various interviews.
Emily recently took to Instagram to post a short video of Luke. It begins with him holding up a picture that he drew and then colored. From there, it shows him creating his art and playing with the family pets.
She captioned the post, “Just to clarify: Luke can read, he’s just not reading at his grade level, and he’s struggling with word comprehension, etc. He was also recently diagnosed as dyslexic.”
Emily continued in the caption, “I was not aware that he was struggling and behind. He is now attending a new school and he’s loving it. Please be kind. Just remember l am learning and dealing with all of these issues in real time while filming! ❤️”
Naturally, the mother of five received a ton of support in the comments. One of the replies came from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Angie Katsanevas, who will appear on Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition with Emily. She wrote, “You are a great mom, Emily. He is darling🩵🩵🩵”
Another person stated, “Luke is going so good. Proud of his accomplishments and talent.” Someone else wrote, “I’m so glad you’re finding answers and solutions! Watching our kids hurt and suffer is so hard. You’re doing a great job.”
Finally, another parent commented, “You’re amazing and relatable and none of us are perfect; none of us know what we’re doing when it comes to parenting 👏🏻👏🏻.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs on Thursday nights.
