Emma Hernan‘s personal life and relationship with Blake Davis have been one of the most significant sticking points of Selling Sunset season nine. Specifically, it has caused immense conflict with Chrishell Stause. Now, Emma is not only defending her relationship, but she’s also clarifying his alleged comments about the use of pronouns.
Emma and Blake began dating in early 2024 and went public with their relationship in April of that year. They have been on and off again since then, but they appear to be currently dating.
Emma was interviewed by US Weekly in November 2025 and discussed how her relationship with Blake affected her relationship with Chrishell.
“It was one of those things where I really was holding on to a friendship with Chrishell and worried about what other people thought. It came to the point where I was like, ‘This is the person that I care about,'” she said.
Emma went on to defend her status with Blake.
The Selling Sunset star said, “Everyone can say what they want — or they can either love him or hate him. But ultimately, it’s my choice who I end up with.” Later, she discussed what led to her no longer hiding the fact that she was in a relationship with him. This was after they filmed the reunion for season nine.
She said, “A few of the girls were like, ‘If that’s your man, then say that’s your man. Just own it. No one can dictate who you can or can’t be with.’ So I decided I am going to be open to this relationship and not be ashamed of my best friend not liking him. If it works, it works, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”
From there, they began to discuss how Chrishell accused Blake of making fun of pronouns. According to Emma, “He did not say that pronouns were dumb. He would never say that. He accidentally said ‘wife’ [about Chrishell’s partner, G Flip]. When he said ‘wife,’ I told him and I explained it, and it was the first time he was learning about it, and he was trying to be good.”
She continued, “This was also two years ago. This wasn’t like a recent thing. This was two years ago, and I corrected him because I knew I wanted to be sensitive. I’m super sensitive about the situation, so I corrected him, and he said, ‘Oh, my bad. We’re from the south and we don’t really do it there.’ That’s exactly what was said.”
Emma went on, “It rubbed Chrishell the wrong way, and she’s protective of G, and she’s an amazing person, so I don’t blame her for that. But he didn’t mean anything by it. He did not say pronouns are dumb or [were] stupid. I was right there.”
Emma also stated that she hopes she and Chrishell can move forward with a conversation despite her co-star’s issues with Blake. She explained, “It’s one of those things with their personalities where they just will never see eye to eye.”
“There was a point where I loved them both so much,” Emma continued. “My ideal situation is for my best friend and my boyfriend to love each other. It was the hardest on me because it was really difficult to watch. I didn’t want to make a choice because I really wanted it to work with both.”
Finally, she was asked about her future with Blake and if she would be willing to relocate for him. According to Emma, “I would definitely move to the East Coast [with him]. He would need to propose for me to do that.”
She added, “He has not [proposed yet]. I put my whole life out there this season. I really wanted the audience to just see me and who I am and being vulnerable and seeing the real relationship that I was in.”
Later, Chrishell caught wind of what Emma had to say about Blake’s previous comments about the use of pronouns. She shared a clip of Emma discussing it on her Instagram Stories and included a lengthy caption.

It began, “This is NOT what was said. But good job Emma in flaming the hate for my partner and their preferred pronoun use. I have never gotten mad if someone politely got G’s pronouns wrong.”
She went on to say that she usually corrects people when they misgender G and “we move on.” She also stated that she would wait until the reunion to fully respond. However, Chrishell added, “But since filming the reunion, his own very hateful posts on his IG Story against the LGBTQ community speak volumes on who to believe here.”
Chrishell wasn’t done. She posted a screenshot from Blake where he appeared to criticize Mattel. In the post, he stated that he was shopping for his niece and then questioned why they offer a “fat Barbie” and a “cripple Barbie.” The latter of the two features a Barbie who happens to be in a wheelchair.

Chrishell captioned the screenshot, “I’ll let his words speak for themselves since it is now my word against theirs.”
