Kim Kardashian admitted she staged paparazzi shots and “scammed the system,” as she recalled pretending to visit Britney Spears at her hotel. The Kardashians star also revealed that her daughter North is being homeschooled, and she addressed critics of her parenting.
In 2013, Kim gave birth to North, the first child she shares with ex-husband Kanye West. The couple divorced in 2022, and they have four kids total. Throughout the years, some fans have criticized Kim’s parenting, claiming she’s too lax.
“You’re really the first celebrity to openly stage paparazzi shots,” said Khloe Kardashian, speaking to her sister Kim on Khloe in Wonder Land. “Talk about how, when, and why you started doing that.”
“You knew where [the paparazzi] were,” said Kim. “So you would just go [to them].”
“And be desperate,” said Khloe.
“Totally,” Kim admitted.
“It was cool to be desperate back then,” said Khloe.
“It is all I wanted. I lived for it,” Kim explained. “[My friend] Jonathan and I … were [once] at a restaurant, and we heard [that] Britney Spears is staying at this hotel in New York. So this person at dinner had this, like, crazy phantom Rolls-Royce. So we’re like, ‘Oh, can we get a ride to our hotel?’ And the guy’s like, yeah. And Jonathan and I are like, ‘We’ll sit in the back. You sit in the front,’ so it looks like we got out with a driver at this hotel.”
“And we got out. Paparazzi everywhere, waiting for Britney,” she went on. “But they come out, and they’re like, ‘Kim! Kim! Kim! Are you here to visit Britney? Are you here?’ And Jonathan’s like, ‘Keep your head down and just shut up.'”
Kim then shared what happened once they were inside.
“We go in a phone booth, because we’re like, we don’t know anyone at this hotel. We don’t even know if there’s like a hotel bar for us to walk in,” said Kim. “[We’re hanging] in the phone booth in this hotel for like 20 minutes. And then we’re like, all right, let’s go out. And then we come out, and they’re like, ‘Kim! How was Britney? How was Britney?’ … [We] scammed the system. It was like on every cover.”
At one point, Kim addressed criticism over her parenting.
“I’m just not a judgmental person like that, so I try not to pay attention to it,” she said. “But I think that no one knows unless they’re in my shoes of what I’m dealing with and how we have to manage certain things from the outside world … I think the one misconception that people might have is like, ‘Oh, she’s trying to be [North’s] bestie and lets her get away with a lot.’ Like, no. Northy actually has a lot of rules. The one area is I do let her express herself.”
Kim also shared that North is now homeschooled.
“She is homeschooled, and a lot of it is me helping her do a lot of the teachings … But we do a lot of realistic courses, things that she’s really into,” said the star. “Math — we’ll give budgets, and we’ll go around, and we’ll get stuff, and we’ll add it all up and subtract it all. And she has a brand-building class, you know, it’s like an actual course and a curriculum … It’s a full-time job, even for me and her teacher.”
