Andy Cohen explained why he missed the funeral ceremony for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby‘s son, Robert Cosby Jr., as Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards shared details of the “moving” memorial service after attending.

Andy spoke about his reasoning for not attending the March 7 service on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Radio Andy Live.

“I had so many things to do with the kids this weekend, a lot of commitments, which is why I actually was not able to go to Robert Jr.’s service on Saturday in Salt Lake City,” he shared. “I got a full report, though, and I hear it was an absolutely incredible ceremony.”

Andy noted it was “so kind” that Kyle, Cynthia Bailey, and Sheree Whitfield attended the ceremony, which he heard was “so uplifting and so moving and absolutely, kind of, rapturous.”

“And Mary was on one, I mean, in a spiritual way. She was spiritually on one, let me say that,” he elaborated.

On March 11, RHOBH star Kyle attended An Unforgettable Evening event, and while there, she addressed Robert Jr.’s memorial service, which she attended.

“I don’t know her well, but she’s somebody who’s always been kind when I have met her, and as a mother and a fellow Housewife, I just felt I needed to be there and show up and support her,” Kyle told PEOPLE at the event, which benefited the Women’s Cancer Research Fund.

“It was just so incredibly moving,” she added.

As far as the memorial service, Kyle claimed she had “never experienced something like that.”

“I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to be there and support her and experience something like that. Like I said, I will never forget that day ever in my life,” she said.

After the service, Kyle shared that she and Mary have continued to text “back and forth.”

“I appreciated her having me there because I just, like I said, I was so touched by it,” Kyle concluded. “I just can’t imagine what she’s going through.”

Robert Jr. died on February 23, after years of struggling with substance abuse, which was well-documented on RHOSLC

In a statement, Mary and her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., shared their son had been “called home to the lord.”

“Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace,” they added. “We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

In a candid conversation with Mary that had aired on RHOSLC in November 2024, Robert revealed he had been using recreational drugs and prescription medications since he was 16 after he had tried Xanax at a party. He also copped to abusing other prescription drugs, taking as many as 10 painkillers at once.

“I couldn’t even feel it,”  he shared. “I couldn’t feel it at all.”

He then admitted he had tried heroin and “wanted to die at the time.”

“I felt like a stain — I just felt like this world wasn’t for me,” he heartbreakingly confessed. “You’re the only reason I didn’t kill myself,” he added, referring to Mary.

Filming for season seven of RHOSLC is currently underway. While Mary is expected to return as a full-time cast member, she’s not currently filming, and it’s unknown when she will begin to tape for the show again
