Andy Cohen took John Mayer for a night on the town with three Southern Charm stars – Craig Conover, Shep Rose, and Austen Kroll.
Andy brought the Southern Charm trio to dinner at San Vicente Bungalows, a private, members-only club he belongs to. He said John texted him to ask what he was doing before the party they were attending.
“I said, ‘Oh, I have a dinner with these guys from Bravo,'” Andy shared on yesterday’s Andy Cohen Live on SiriusXM episode. “He said, ‘Well, maybe I’ll crash.’ He goes, ‘What would it be if I crashed?’ I go, ‘Well, look, let me just tell you who these guys are, and then you can decide,’ and he is like, ‘You know what? I’m up for it. I’m coming,’ so I said, ‘Great.'”
John and Andy were sitting at a table waiting for the Southern Charm stars to arrive when Craig walked in first and said Austen was “gonna freak” due to him being a fan of John.
“Fine, so then Shep and Austen come, and I mean… they sit down and immediately… they start getting into it about something, and I go, ‘You guys,’ like the dining room at San Vicente Bungalows? It’s low-key. It’s fancy. There’s a piano player,” Andy continued.
Due to the “elegant” atmosphere of the establishment, Andy instructed them to “bring it down.”
“And then Austen’s like, ‘Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We gotta be quiet. You guys. Come on. We gotta be quiet. We gotta be quiet,'” Andy described.
He then shared that John asked the trio questions about their show, as he’d never seen it. Craig told John it was filmed “like a movie,” which left Andy confused.
“There’s a lot of misinformation coming around,” he said. “I mean, it was just so funny, and then… John’s like, ‘Well, have you all ever dated the same girl on the show? Do you date girls on the show?’ and I’m like, ‘Much of this is about the horrible things they do to girls, and then how are they gonna get better and improve or whatever.'”
At some point during the evening, Andy claimed Austen asked John what he thought of them, which the Watch What Happens Live host admitted was on his mind as well. John told them they had “chaotic energy,” and he “didn’t understand” their speech patterns.
“He goes, ‘I’m not disinterested,’ but he’s like, ‘It is a level of chaos that I don’t,’ he said, ‘I don’t understand your rhythms,'” Andy elaborated.
Andy also revealed that Julia Roberts and Diane Sawyer were at the dining club and stopped by their table after he told Julia to do so.
“They all turn around. There is Julia Roberts. Now these guys, I will give it up to them. They are such Southern gentlemen. They all three stand up as quickly as they can, rise to bow to royalty, which they do, and then Diane Sawyer blows them away, and she says to each of them, ‘I’m Diane Sawyer,’ and they were like, ‘Oh my god. We are in the presence of royalty,’ so it was very funny,” Andy detailed.
He noted the night was “really good,” and he later ended up at a bar close to where he lives, where Craig, Austen, and Shep were.
“We had a very spirited debrief of the night, and they were in very funny form, and I think if you watch the show, you are probably wondering, ‘Well, how does that leave things with Craig and Austen?'” Andy concluded.
He also instructed viewers of the show to “watch the reunion,” insisting Craig and Austen are able to “be around each other” but noting their relationship is “more than fraught.”
In the currently airing Season 11 of the show, Craig and Austen went through major issues in their friendship, including a heated argument where Craig accused Austen of jealousy and criticized his relationship. When the aforementioned reunion airs, it will be interesting to see what these two are able to hash out, if anything.
