Craig Conover addressed his declining friendships with Austen Kroll and Shep Rose, shared what wasn’t shown in the season, and claimed he and Salley Carson were “never” romantic.

In recent seasons of Southern Charm, both Austen and Shep have suggested that Craig distanced himself as a friend. Early in the new season, Craig seemed to have a flirty connection with Salley, but he later made it clear that he wasn’t interested in a relationship.

In an interview for Drawn Together with Oona, Craig claimed that his entire cast would be better off “not on reality TV,” because it takes part of one’s peace. According to Craig, filming the show impacted his friendship with Austen.

“But that’s not filming’s fault,” he said. “It brings issues to the forefront. Austen and I are meant to be people that just brush things under the rug. … Our value systems are different and our frequencies are different. And it’s the same thing that happened with me and Shep. Like we realize that we’re not supposed to … be in the deepest layers of friendship with each other because we just don’t connect.”

“We weren’t always that way, but … it got to the point where we’re trying to force square pegs into round holes,” he said. “We just weren’t connecting and we’re at different places in our journeys. And I think the only way from here is up.”

Craig claimed they had a “good reunion.”

He then addressed how Salley pursued Austen soon after Craig ended things: “I think [Salley] always liked [Austen]. I was happy for her. … Like I was a little surprised this year when like it appeared [in the edit] that Sally liked me so much. … I think I was a shiny object for like a little bit. … But like it was always me and Charley.”

“In the beginning of this season, Sally was hanging with [my friend] Kory,” he said. “And then her and Austen. I mean, I thought that was gonna happen. … When I meet someone, I know within the first like 10 seconds if I have a romantic chemistry with them, and that was never with [Salley].”
