After their friendship took a major hit during season three of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Whitney Rose took to Twitter to reveal that her cousin and co-star, Heather Gay, has begun refollowing her on Instagram.
“So, I get refollowed yesterday after her ride-or-die was sentenced yesterday…WILD!” Whitney tweeted on Saturday, January 7.
The tweet and news come on the heels of Whitney’s RHOSLC castmate, Jen Shah, being sentenced to 6.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud in connection to a telemarketing scam targeting the elderly. This coincidence was not lost on the Wild Rose Beauty founder.
Looking at the timing of Whitney’s photo evidence, “priority”-labeled Heather began following Whitney just 20 minutes before she posted the screenshot.
Fans had very mixed reactions. Some called out “desperate” Whitney for trying to create a storyline for season four of RHOSLC and others came to her defense.
One fan commented, “This is the one situation where I’m with Whitney.”
Another said, “I like both of them and Whitney’s feelings are important, but this was just petty and childish. She needs to get off of social media and try to repair their relationship.”
A third presumed it was a ploy for the show, quipping, “The extreme effort expended on such a deeply uninteresting storyline, each development duller than the next.”
Whitney and Heather have been battling it out on the latest season of RHOSLC, and the once-close cousins have yet to mend their fractured relationship. Heather has staunchly stood by Jen’s side throughout her legal ordeal while simultaneously taking a “friend break” from Whitney amid her childhood trauma recovery.
Speaking on their friendship to Us Weekly, Heather says that she’s “not sure how to repair” their broken bond as she doesn’t “even really understand” what she’s done wrong.
“The way that it just disappeared overnight, I feel like our friendship just went up in smoke and I’m not sure how to repair that. … I still don’t even really understand what I’m doing wrong and, like, how to fix it. I think that I’ve been really frustrated, and I’ve done things that are out of character for me when I get really frustrated and kind of pushed to my limit,” Heather told the outlet.
She continued by saying that she’s become a “different person” and is “reevaluating” her friendships. She is unclear about what that means for her and Whitney.
“I just feel like I am starting to value the people that are in my life consistently, and that makes it hard for me to look at our friendship,” she concluded.
