The Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and wife Theresa Nist revealed they’re ending the marriage – three months after they tied the knot on national television.
Earlier in April, TMZ shared a report that the couple hadn’t yet moved into the same place despite their January wedding. Theresa remained in New Jersey while Gerry stayed in Indiana.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart to heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation — our living situation — and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s time for us to dissolve our marriage,” said Gerry on Good Morning America.
The star said it’s “best for the happiness of each of us to live apart” and be closer to their respective families.
According to a source speaking to Us Weekly, one reason they decided not to immediately move was Theresa’s career as a compliance officer on the East Coast.
At the time, the insider added that Theresa and Gerry were navigating a long-distance relationship, visiting each other frequently, though they dreamed about settling down together eventually.
“One of the things that I think fate played a hand in is the possibility of where we might wind up living. For the last couple of years, when my family gets together, I’ve talked about moving to South Carolina, and it’s an idea I’ve toyed with. And then in conversation with Theresa, a private moment, she’s saying, ‘Well, yeah, my son lives near Charleston in South Carolina,’” Gerry explained in an interview with PEOPLE last December. “And all of a sudden it’s like, there’s a big problem that is gone. The issue of compromising on where to live and how to reconcile families and all of that is, it’s no longer an issue.”
