The older seasons of The Real Housewives of New York City are still considered some of the best television Bravo has ever aired. As a result, many still wonder why the full Legacy series never materialized as it was planned. Recently, Luann de Lesseps opened up about what went wrong.

Bravo announced in 2020 that the RHONY series would be rebooted. Simultaneously, they revealed that some of the cast from the original show would be featured in a Legacy series. However, they ended up filming and then airing it as an Ultimate Girls Trip season instead of a series.

Luann recently appeared on Gibson John’s YouTube series, Gabbing With Gib. They discussed a wealth of topics, including the RHONY album’s touring, time on Love Hotel, and her future television engagements. They then began to discuss the failed Legacy series, with Gibson stating that Bravo should have announced it before the reboot to gain favor from the fans.

The Money Can’t Buy You Class singer stated, “Well, it was a big thing, too, to swap up the cast completely.” “I think they should have swapped up the cast and done that,” Luann continued. She then explained the precise reason the show didn’t move forward.

According to her, “But they decided to do both, and one after the other sort of fell off the wagon in terms of, you know, Jill[Zarin] didn’t wanna do it. I mean, she did, but you know, there were contractual things.” She added, “So, there’s a lot of politics that go on with it, and then all of a sudden we’re replaced. You know, they tried something out, it didn’t work, and I think they’re going to try it again.”

Of course, Zill Zarin has spoken about this before. She stated that the network didn’t offer what she considered to be fair compensation for appearing on the Legacy series.

From there, the RHONY OG stated that she hopes Bravo will cast a few of the original ladies in the main series for its eventual return. In discussing the reboot, Luann also explained that part of the issue is that they “threw this new cast together who didn’t really know each other.”

Regarding her future with Housewives, she’s hopeful that the network will send the RHONY ladies on another girls’ trip. She even mentioned perhaps doing something with Below Deck
