Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner recently wrote a book in which he discussed his experiences with the show, and he also opened up about his divorce from Theresa Nist. Now, she’s telling her side of the story, which includes allegations of violent threats from her now ex-husband. This has led him to respond.
The Golden Bachelor premiered on ABC in September 2023 with Gerry, 74, on a search for love. In the end, he chose Theresa, 72, and the two tied the knot via a special live ceremony, The Golden Wedding, in January of the following year. However, they announced their divorce only a few months later, in April.
Theresa appeared on the Dear Shandy Podcast in November 2025. They discussed how it seemed that Gerry had attempted to portray her as a villain in his book. They also noted that he wrote about her in a way that made her seem like a snob.
From there, the hosts joked that they believed Gerry had “bodies under the floorboard” while they were watching The Golden Bachelor. “Do you want me to tell you a story similar to that?” asked Teresa.
She continued, “I finally went to his house, and we took a walk around this lake called Pretty Lake, and we were coming to the end of it, and he said, this is really bizarre, he said, ‘You see that shed up there?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘Well, that’s where I’m gonna hide your body after I kill you and chop you up.'”
“And he wasn’t laughing, and I said, well, if this is his idea of a joke, that was pretty dark humor,” she added. Theresa also said that she felt there may have been underlying animosity in his joke. Still, she also stated that she doesn’t think he would have actually killed her, but it “spoke to an underlying feeling about me.”
Later, they discussed how Gerry wrote in the book that he felt “misled” after Theresa wanted to continue on with her career after they were married. Notably, Gerry has said this was part of the reason for their divorce, and he also accused her of not being honest about her economic situation while on the show.
Theresa said, “So, in a heartbeat, I would have quit my job if he was the right guy. But by that time, there were so many red flags that there was no way that would be a smart move for me to leave my job.”
She went on, “So, my plan, just as I was saying before, was to keep my job, keep my house, and then go the whole year and go on all of these trips with him, and then know whether or not this was the right thing to do.” She also recalled how an ex of Gerry, who referred to herself as Caroline, had previously opened up about him trying to convince her to leave her home and job.
Following the interview, Gerry offered a comment to TMZ, saying, “I laughed. That’s preposterous.”
