Mary Bonnet has become a staple of Selling Sunset, and she has even given fans an in-depth look at her life through her memoir, Selling Sunshine. Now, the Netflix reality star is opening up about quitting alcohol, her past financial challenges, and how she overcame being sexually assaulted.

Mary joined Selling Sunset during the show’s first season and appeared in the most recent, which debuted on Netflix on October 29. The reunion special is also now available to stream on the platform.

Mary gave a deeply revealing interview to Gurus Magazine in November 2025. One of the most significant takeaways came when the Selling Sunset star opened up about her recent life changes, including her decision to stop drinking. She said, “I didn’t have a problem — nothing bad happened, but I realized it wasn’t serving me anymore. What used to help me relax started giving me anxiety. So I stopped.”

Mary added, “I’m the best version of me. I have my mocktail, and I feel proud of myself. I’m grounded and centered in a way I’ve never been.” The real estate agent also discussed her 2024 book, Selling Sunshine, in which she became vulnerable about being sexually assaulted, filing for bankruptcy, and more dark chapters of her life.

Mary told the outlet, “I was a single teenage mom at 16. I grew up poor, went through abusive relationships, went bankrupt, and even survived rape. People don’t know my story, so they don’t always understand why I am the way I am.”

She continued by saying her story is what makes her so compassionate to others. According to Mary, “When people do things, there’s something bigger going on. That’s why I always try to lead with compassion.” Regarding the book, she said, “It really dives into how I made it through crazy situations and came out stronger. It’s about learning that you can always choose light over darkness.”

Mary also shared that her sister has been on her own healing journey and that they share the same spiritual coach. This has led them to seek to help others through a new business venture. She said, “We’re actually planning to start speaking publicly together. We want to help other people find that same healing.”

That’s not all; they’re also considering opening a wellness retreat together. “My sister and I are thinking about opening a wellness retreat in Bali,” Mary shared. “A place where people can recharge — yoga, meditation, connection.” She also said she and her husband have discussed doing a positive travel show together.

Mary also opened up in a new interview with Decider about her relationship with the cast, specifically with Chrishell Stause, who recently announced her exit from the series, and Chelsea Lazkani. She said, “There’s a lot that has happened with both Chrishell and Chelsea behind the scenes and on camera that just got edited out.”

“I am open to friendships with anybody,” Mary continued. “Again, we’re all human and make mistakes. But all of this craziness and all of this bashing and hitting below the belt has got to stop.”

She then said, “I won’t have any part of it, and I don’t even look at social media. I have my team do it right now because I’m sensitive. I think everybody knows how sensitive I am, and it breaks my heart to read comments and to read things about yourself.”

Selling Sunset is available to stream on Netflix.
