Beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, passed away on December 14 following an apparent stabbing allegedly committed by their son, Nick Reiner. Now, amid tributes for the famed director, President Donald Trump has weighed in with a controversial take, prompting a response from Whoopi Goldberg.
Rob, 78, was one of the stars of the classic sitcom All in the Family. After that, he went on to become one of the most respected directors in Hollywood, helming movies such as A Few Good Men, Misery, Stand By Me, and When Harry Met Sally. Michele, 68, was also a Hollywood producer.
Donald Trump’s comments about Rob have been criticized by those on both the political left and right. Whoopi took to the December 14 episode of The View to call him out. She began her scathing rant, “I don’t understand the man in that White House.”
“Because he talked so much about Charlie Kirk and caring, and suddenly, this is what he puts out,” Whoopi continued. “Have you no shame? No shame at all? Can you get any lower? I don’t think so.”
From there, the actress and ABC host discussed recent world events, including the tragic shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia. She said, “What do you have to say about what’s happened around the world? Where is our voice as Americans? Somebody’s gotta speak up for us. Our hearts are breaking through all of this.”
She added, “Through Rob, through what’s happened at Bondi Beach, what happened at Brown, and you don’t find the time to say as Americans, ‘We hate what’s happening,’ you ain’t my president.
Regarding Donald’s comments on Reiner, he began on Truth Social, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood.” However, things took a turn when he mentioned specifics.
According to the president, “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

The rant continued, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
In terms of Whoopi’s response, it is essential to note that the president has addressed the tragic shootings at Bondi Beach and Brown University. However, his comments about those events are also under fire, specifically regarding the shooting at Brown, with many calling what he had to say callous.
According to Yahoo News, he said, “Things can happen, so to the nine injured, get well fast. And to the families of those two who are no longer with us, I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America. Thank you very much. It’s a very important thing to say. And we mean it.”
For the most part, the first three words of his statement have caused the most pushback. The president has yet to respond to Whoopi and The View.
