Katie Maloney addressed her return to reality TV after nearly three years, and shared what she felt “forced” to do in the past. She also hinted at being “a little traumatized” after her former show Vanderpump Rules, and gave an update on her ex-husband Tom Schwartz.
Recently, a trailer revealed that Katie filmed for Stassi Schroeder’s new Hulu show, House of Stassi. Stassi and Katie were once close on Pump Rules, though they had a secret falling out after Stassi was fired.
On Humble Brag, Katie hinted at feeling “forced” to do certain things on reality TV in the past.
“I’ve been off of reality TV for a couple of years now,” she said, via @vanderpodrecaps on Instagram. “The last thing I filmed was in 2023. … It’s been really nice just to live a soft life, have it be quiet, have no one up in my business, don’t have to be friends with people I don’t want to be friends with or be forced to be around anyone, including my ex.”
“I don’t hate [Schwartz], but we needed that type of separation from one another,” she said. “[Filming reality TV] was so much fun, I was a little traumatized from it, but getting to do it in a very different way, in a different capacity, on a different network, it just feels like it has a different life to it and I’m happy to be back on there.”
Katie then hinted at her past falling out with Stassi, as she teased the new show.
“It’s called House of Stassi. It’s with Stassi Schroeder from Vanderpump Rules, obviously. She’s been off of TV for five plus years,” said the star. “It’s just kind of like picking up our lives where they are now and the people that are in them. A lot of [her life] is very family-oriented, her sister, her husband, her kids, some of their best friends, and then me. And you’ll see, you know, no one knows that we had a bit of a falling out for some years.”
“So this is really kind of going to be documenting our road back to friendship in this phase of life that is very different,” she said. “We’re on very different life paths right now. She’s, you know, married, two kids. I’m divorced and, you know, newly dating someone else, but it’s really wonderful. I think there’s something really beautiful about friendships that span from your early 20’s into like your 40’s, where we’re just different people, but we can still have love and appreciation. So it’s just about us like navigating that.”
Katie said her boyfriend Nick Martin (a guitarist for the band Sleeping with Sirens) also participated.
“He is so supportive,” she said. “And it’s just like, ‘Anything you need me to do to help support you, I’ll be there.’ And I’m just like, ‘Well, I mean, it’d be kind of great if you filmed a bit, but like, I don’t want to put that on you, you know.’ But he was such a wonderful, willing participant in that.”
Katie then seemed to throw shade at Schwartz: “It just felt so different having someone that does support me emotionally, mentally, physically, in all those ways, be on that journey with me. It just, it felt really, really nice.”
“I feel like I’m not so on the defense. I was very tightly wound, very insecure,” she said. “A lot of those issues from my previous relationship obviously impacted me. So I just feel like I’m just a different person now.”
But Katie shared that Schwartz and Janet Caperna are the only people she really talks to from Bravo’s The Valley – a spinoff of Pump Rules.
