Jasmine Goode reacted to fan backlash over her comments about “parenthood” on The Valley reunion, as Janet Caperna defended her. Jasmine then shared her wish that people wouldn’t “constantly use” parenthood as the “primary reason for their behavior.”
On the latest reunion episode, Jasmine suggested she was sick of hearing about kids in relation to Danny Booko and Nia Booko’s explanation for their actions. At this point, many castmates shared that having kids is extremely difficult, and they hinted that Jasmine (who wants to have kids but doesn’t yet) wasn’t empathizing with the parents in the cast.
In the episode, Jasmine seemingly questioned Danny’s claims that his depression and sleep exhaustion, after the birth of their fourth child, influenced his controversial behavior on the show. After the episode aired, some fans claimed that Jasmine wasn’t giving parents in the cast any grace.
In an August 13 Threads post, Jasmine reacted to the backlash.
“I just want to clarify, I am absolutely empathizing that parenthood is challenging!! I don’t have kids yet, but I can see how incredibly tiring it is,” she wrote. “I hope to have children soon and I can only imagine what it will be like and hope I am given grace.”
But Jasmine added, “My only intention was that I wish people wouldn’t constantly use that as the primary reason for their behavior.”
Janet then reacted in a comment.
“I knew what you meant,” wrote Janet. “You’ve been nothing but supportive to us as parents and we love you!”
Around the same time, Jasmine addressed her suggestion that Danny was using Nia’s postpartum struggles as an excuse.
“I think what I’m saying is being misunderstood,” said Jasmine. “I’m not talking about having an attitude or denying how serious postpartum depression can be. I understand that it can completely change someone.”
“I’m talking about specific behavior and how you treat other people. Being sleep deprived doesn’t excuse getting drunk and being inappropriate,” she said. “That’s what I was speaking on. I’ve explained myself enough. I appreciate the discussion and I hope that clears up where I was coming from.”
