D’Andra Simmons shared a major update after her breast cancer surgery and revealed her next steps. Last month, the Real Housewives of Dallas star addressed her diagnosis and said she was getting a procedure to remove the tumor.

At the time, D’Andra revealed that she’s the third woman on her mother’s side of the family to face breast cancer. Her mother, Dee “Momma Dee” Simmons, was often featured on the show.

“Today is World Breast Cancer Research Day, so I thought that would be a good day to update you on my progress and how I’m doing after having my surgery,” wrote D’Andra in an August 18 Instagram post. “I had surgery for breast cancer on the 29th of July, and I had a very difficult week after, but I’m feeling much better. My prognosis is very good.”

“I will start radiation, which is the second part of my treatment, in about three to four weeks, and then I have to take some medications, but other than that, I am going to be A-OK. They feel like they got all of the cancer when they did the surgery, and it was a very early stage.”

D’Andra said she discovered it through a self-examination. According to the star, she had lobular breast cancer, which is “rare” and “more aggressive.”

“I want all the women out there and men too to make sure that you are doing self-examinations, because if it hadn’t been for me doing a self-examination, I’m sure it would have been found, but it would have been much later,” she explained. “I found it very early, and so I’m feeling much better now, back to work, back to enjoying life. And what I really want to tell you is I am so thankful and so grateful for everyone that reached out to me during this time. I had so many messages, they just poured in [with] love.”

“It really helped me get through what was a difficult time,” she said. “I’m a go-getter and with any surgery, I’m usually up in three days and back to work, but that didn’t happen this time because the lymph nodes were a little painful … I’d also like to thank my Real Housewives of Dallas castmembers, specifically Brandi Redmond, Stephanie Hollman, Kameron Westcott and Tiffany Moon, for reaching out to me and wishing me all the best and a quick speedy recovery. Thank you girls so much.”
