Bozoma “Boz” Saint John spoke of Garcelle Beauvais unfollowing the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast while appearing on a morning show on Thursday.
Months after Garcelle, 58, quit the show after five seasons, Boz, 48, looked back on her final conversation with her former co-star, shared the one clue she got before her engagement to Keely Watson, and revealed how she linked up with Jimmy Fallon, 51, for their new show, On Brand, while also reflecting on the warning she received before signing her contract with Bravo.
“I wish I knew [why Garcelle unfollowed us]. I really do. That’s not even, like, me being optically correct. Like, I wish I knew,” Boz said on the October 2 episode of The Breakfast Club.
According to Boz, she hoped to work through the issues she and Garcelle ran into on the show.
“[But] we just don’t have that option. And so it’s a lot like having a breakup where you don’t get access to the person anymore, and you kind of have to have closure on your own,” she explained. “A lot of times, people are like, ‘Oh, they’re not over the thing because they didn’t get their closure.’ I’m like, ‘You can close that door yourself, too.’ And so if that’s what she needed to do, then good for her.”
In addition to continuing to follow Garcelle, noting that she is “still interested in what she’s doing” and “still cheering,” Boz confirmed the two of them had been in touch since her season 14 reunion storm-off.
“I did [reach out]. She responded, but it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, let’s go have lunch,’” she shared. “I was just like, ‘Hey, look, I wish you the very best, you know, and I want you to succeed, and I wish this would’ve worked out.’ And she said, ‘Thank you, Boz.’ And that’s it. So, it’s amicable.”
Moving on to Keely’s proposal, saying that it was “very difficult” to surprise her, Boz admitted there was one thing that tipped her off a little bit: Keely’s visit to Mumbai, India, where she’d previously gotten herself a couple of rings.
“I love India for its jewels, for its gems … so that’s when I was like, ‘Is he in India to get me a ring?’ That was the only thing when my spidey senses were going. But I wasn’t sure, and you don’t want to ask. So when he proposed, I was surprised because I wasn’t expecting it, and then when he said he’d been in India for my ring, I was like, ‘Ah, see, my spidey senses weren’t wrong,’” she explained.
Also on The Breakfast Club, Boz spoke of her many career moves and the questions she faced along the way.
“People were not supportive … When I joined Uber as a chief brand officer, I was the head of global marketing for Apple Music and launched it. People were like, ‘Why would you leave Apple and go to Uber?’ Because at the time it was failing, and it was like, headed south. I was like, ‘This is where my intuition is calling me. That’s where I got to go, and I don’t care what your opinions are.’ I did that over and over and over again,” she recalled.
Then, when she joined RHOBH, Boz said people told her she was “gonna destroy [her] reputation,” asking, “Why would you go on TV and fight with women?’”
“And I was like, ‘I don’t feel like that’s what I need to do. Why can’t we showcase a different type of woman on the show?’” she wondered.
Ultimately, it was Boz’s addition to RHOBH that led to her partnership with Jimmy.
“Jimmy’s wife was watching the show, and unbeknownst to me or anybody else, Jimmy had been trying to sell [On Brand] to NBC for two years,” she revealed. “And when he was pitching, they told him that he needed somebody to legitimize the show.”
Although Jimmy met with a bunch of CMOs, nobody was clicking, which led his wife to suggest Boz.
“He watched the season. He was like, ‘You’re great.’ And so he called me. We had a meeting, and it just felt like the perfect culmination of everything,” she admitted. “It’s been an incredible — it feels like divine alignment.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 15 is expected to premiere on Bravo later this year or early next year.
