Kim Kardashian took to social media recently to share that she’d gotten each of her children a Pomeranian puppy for Christmas. Now, the animal rights organization PETA is calling out the reality star and actress.
The Kardashians star has two daughters and two sons with rapper Kanye West: North, Chicago, Saint, and Psalm. Kim announced the kids’ gifts by posting a picture of the puppies to her Instagram Story. She said, “Each kid got a puppy.”
According to the Daily Mail, PETA released a statement on December 28. Ingrid Newkirk, the organization’s founder, said, “Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that.”
The animal rights activist then said, “Ignoring the homeless animals crisis is inexcusably callous” before saying that Kim should “call PETA or a local shelter the next time [she] wants to bring an animal into [her] home.”
The organization provided a possible way for Kim to make things right in its eyes. Ingrid says she can “make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter.”
Additionally, the PETA representative suggested that Kim should fund “a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.” It’s worth noting that PETA also recently called out Khloe Kardashian after she got a Labrador puppy.
In addition to the statement from PETA, many people online took issue with the Christmas gift, although for different reasons. One person wondered who would train the dogs, saying, “No one in the family will be taking care of these dogs, grooming them, or walking them anytime, daily. They will have to hire a full-time dog person now.”
Someone else wrote, “You know those kids won’t pick up the puppies poop and pee accidents….poor pups 😫💔” Someone else wrote, “They will be returned I’m sure, or worse! When will people get it through their heads, dogs are for life, not a gift! 🤬🤬”
Finally, another X user came to Kim’s defense, saying, “She’s so beautiful. The pups are cute. I’m sure they’ll be well taken care of.”
Do you think Kim was right in buying her children puppies for Christmas, or should she have adopted instead?
