Mercedes Javid revealed if there was infidelity in her marriage to Tommy Feight, and shared more details behind why she filed for divorce. The Valley: Persian Style star also gave more insight into their new living situation.
Last year, Mercedes announced her split from Tommy after seven years of marriage. Though they initially seemed to dispute custody, the exes apparently worked it out and are now in a better place as co-parents.
On Humble Brag, Mercedes was asked why she filed for divorce.
“It felt like the train was at the station,” she said. “Nobody cheated. There isn’t somebody else. It’s not about any of that outside type of thing. … It just didn’t seem like we should be married. It seemed like, ‘You know what we could do, we could salvage what is there, which is we’re always going to be mom and dad to our beautiful son. We can hopefully preserve respect and friendship, which I strongly believe we can, and co-parenting.”
“But there were just so many things … that did not feel like what a relationship should be like,” she added. “In the world that I live in on a day-to-day basis, it is a still stigma to be separated or divorced. Because I love him, I didn’t think it was fair for us to be in something that wasn’t necessarily healthy.”
In an interview for The Daily Dish, Mercedes revealed her new living situation amid the divorce.
“My current home, so, obviously Tommy and I moved out, but we’re in a cul-de-sac very close to each other, so it’s very like new beginnings,” she explained. “Like, on the mornings that I have to wake up alone, I feel like I am 19 years old in my 19-year-old condo, which is wild and cool because it makes me feel like I’m young again, and then there is something really invigorating about having a space that’s totally yours.”
“It’s like one of those things where it’s very beautiful and white and high ceilings, which I love,” she said. “I have a lot of natural light — that’s the realtor in me talking. But, if it’s a mess, it’s a mess I made … or [my son] Shams, of course.”
As for why she filed, Mercedes said it has to do with “self-preservation and self-worth.”
“You can choose that and love someone at the same time and prioritize your baby boy, which we’re both doing really well,” the star added. “I’m really impressed with how well we’re holding it down in this new chapter.”
