A source close to Kendra Duggar has revealed why she ended up incarcerated a mere two days after her husband, 19 Kids and Counting alum Joseph Duggar, ended up in jail.
Joseph was arrested after he was accused of molesting a nine-year-old girl, but it wasn’t initially clear why Kendra was taken into custody.
An insider who spoke to PEOPLE revealed that “the arrest was a result of a home inspection, and the door locks being on the exterior of the doors.” There has been speculation that authorities discovered locks on the exterior of the doors of the kids’ bedrooms.
A spokesperson for the Duggar family insisted Kendra’s charges are “totally unrelated” to Joseph’s.
“She’s not suspected or accused of participating in his alleged crime,” they shared.
Joseph was taken into police custody on March 18 in Arkansas on a warrant out of Bay County, Florida. He was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, specifically molestation of a victim less than 12 years old, and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older.
The affidavit also revealed Joseph “admitted his intentions were not pure,” which led to BCSO Criminal Investigator Chase Norris getting a warrant for Joseph’s arrest.
Joseph is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Facility in Arkansas, awaiting extradition to Florida.
After his arrest, police were searching his and Kendra’s home, which is what led to additional charges against Joseph and the initial charges against Kendra.
A spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office told PEOPLE that Joseph and Kendra were charged with “four counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree false imprisonment.”
If they are convicted on all eight counts, Joseph and Kendra could face up to eight years each in prison and thousands of dollars in fines.
Kendra posted bail after her arrest and was released in a few hours.
While much of the family has remained silent, Jill Dillard released a statement, saying, “Our hearts go out to the innocent juvenile victim of this unspeakable crime and her family. We pray God gives her strength, comfort, and hope, and that she is able to get all the help and support she needs and deserves in the days ahead.”
Joseph’s cousin, Amy Duggar, also broke down in tears in a video following Kendra’s arrest.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” she shared. “And our local news is saying that there’s more and there’s been — someone else has been arrested, and there’s stuff going on, and I’m just, I don’t know.”
“I just thought everyone should know that there’s more to this story,” she added. “I don’t know what it is, though.”
Kendra is set for a court hearing on March 23 and is due in court again on April 29.
