An expert claimed Lisa Hochstein could face five years in prison after the Real Housewives of Miami star was reportedly in jail for six hours. Additionally, her ex-boyfriend, Jody Glidden, pleaded not guilty.

Both Lisa and Jody now face a count of interception involving electronic, oral, or wire communications. On April 15, Lisa voluntarily surrendered herself to the authorities, according to her lawyer Jayne Weintraub, while speaking to TMZ. Jody was placed in custody a few days before that, though he was also released.

The charge is reportedly connected to her ex-husband Lenny Hochstein‘s claim that she put a listening device in his vehicle in 2023 in order to eavesdrop on his conversations. The exes were in a contentious divorce after he filed in 2022, though it was finalized two years later.

According to certified family law specialist Rachael Bennett, who’s a senior lawyer at Sullivan Law & Associates, Lisa may be facing five years behind bars.

“This is pretty serious. They’re accused of secretly bugging Lenny’s car with a listening device. Now, some states require what’s called an ‘All Party Consent’ if you’re going to record someone, and in Florida, that’s definitely one of the laws there,” said Rachael, speaking to Us Weekly‘s Legally Us podcast. “That means that if you record someone without their knowledge or permission, that recording is considered to have been obtained illegally in Florida. This is considered a third degree felony, which means she could face up to five years of prison time if she’s convicted.”

“As we all know, divorces can absolutely bring out the worst kind of behavior from even the most reasonable people,” she continued. “But this defense could also be seen as an effort to downplay the situation, so I think she’s going to have to be careful not to minimize her actions here if these claims are true.”

Meanwhile, TMZ reported that Lisa was alone for six hours in jail without food after she turned herself in — after the judge ordered that she be processed and released “without undue delay.”

Per the court docs, the judge also ordered that she didn’t have to appear in court before the release. Insiders told the outlet that she surrendered herself at about 9:45 that morning, and she was booked around 11:00, but she wasn’t let out until around 5:00 p.m. The jail confirmed that Lisa got booked about 11:45 a.m. and was let out right before 5:00. A source claimed she remained in a cold jail cell during the interim.

The insider also shared that her surrender was arranged beforehand, and the plan was that she be led through the process of booking before her release.

According to Local 10 News, Jody’s lawyer went to court on his behalf on Thursday for his arraignment and pleaded not guilty for him.

As for Lisa, her arraignment is scheduled for April 20.
