The Hills alum Spencer Pratt was running a rather successful campaign to potentially become the next Mayor of Los Angeles, California.
For a while, he was in second place, and it seemed like he would be taking on Karen Bass; however, yesterday, it was confirmed that Spencer was ousted from the race.
Nithya Raman, a Los Angeles City Councilmember, beat Spencer for the second-place spot, meaning she will advance to the November mayoral election, while Spencer will not.
Alex Stack, Karen’s spokesperson, released a statement Sunday evening, saying, “We look forward to winning a contest against an opponent who allows encampments near schools and fights against hiring more cops, yet is MIA on saving Hollywood jobs and fighting back when ICE invades LA.”
Although Nithya had previously endorsed Karen, she ended up throwing her hat in the ring at the last minute in February. She was elected to City Council in 2020, and she is the first Asian American woman and South Asian to serve on the council. She was also the first person in 17 years to defeat a sitting councilmember.
As neither Karen nor Nithya received over 50% of the vote, they will advance to a runoff election in November.
Donald Trump, who had endorsed Spencer, reacted to the news on social media, saying it was “not possible” for Spencer to “have lost the L.A. runoffs after the big lead he had.”
“3rd world Nation,” he continued. “Rigged elections! Now they’ll be working on great guy Steve Hilton. Won’t have results for, possibly, TWO WEEKS, according to officials.”
Last month, Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather Dubrow, who is known for being extremely liberal, shocked fans when she threw her support behind Spencer.
On the May 13 episode of her Between Us podcast, Heather said, “I think when you have someone that is so invested in his city and this community and understands. Maybe someone at the helm who actually cares about the fact that this is the best city ever, and it’s ruined.”
“I think he has something to say, and I think… this is true from things I hear about him and from him, is that he’s smart enough to know what he doesn’t know and will surround himself with those people that are smart enough to actually know those things,” she added.
On a more recent episode of the podcast, Heather backpedaled a bit, admitting she got “a lot of s*it” for how she spoke about Spencer.
“The fact that Spencer Pratt is signed on to do a reality show if he gets elected, I find insane,” she said, changing her tune. “And to me, you know how I always make a joke about The Bachelor, I’m like ‘Spoiler alert, they’re not looking for love.’ Right. Prove to me that you love L.A. and that you want to be in that office to fix things. By saying you want to do a reality show the moment you get there says to me you’re in this for you. And then number two, ‘If I don’t win mayor, I am leaving California.’ Wah! You’re such a baby.”
Spencer has yet to concede defeat, posting on X earlier yesterday, “Folks, we’re dealing with a fraction of a percentage point difference, there’s still hundreds of thousands of votes outstanding, and LA officials have given us the next 3 weeks to count! Let’s git-r-dun!”
