Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards is breaking her silence weeks after her home was broken into and over $1 million worth of items were stolen.
In a new interview, the Bravo reality star opens up about some of the irreplaceable items the burglars took, the devastation she feels, and why she chose to continue her vacation despite the robbery.
Speaking to The Daily Dish, Kyle reveals how “everything” was taken by the thieves including watches, handbags, and jewelry. Even her passport wasn’t spared. While she calls the burglary “devastating,” she does make it clear it is the irreplaceable items that got stolen, such as gifts from her late mother, that hurt the most.
“We first heard about the burglary when we were in Aspen and we were completely shocked. And it was just devastating. I’m very grateful that we’re all OK,” said Kyle. “I keep telling myself, these are just things, they are. But it still really hurts a lot. My mom [Kathleen Richards] left me things she had collected her whole life, passed those onto me, and I wanted to pass those things on to my four daughters. And every time I buy something or I’ve been given something, I think, ‘Well, these are gonna be for my daughters one day.’ Really, every gift I’ve ever been given, everything my mother left me, everything that I worked my butt off to buy for myself, all of it has been taken.”
As reported, Kyle, her husband Mauricio Umansky, and their kids were all on vacation in Aspen when their new home got burglarized. In fact, it happened just a day after they departed for their vacation. And to the shock of many, the couple decided to continue their vacation rather than cut it short. Kyle explains why.
“The last place I wanted to be was home at that moment. So I decided to stay in Aspen with my family and try to focus on the fact that we have each other and we’re happy and healthy and enjoy our vacation together because there was nothing I could do at home in LA,” said Kyle. “The detectives had handled everything. And everything was gone.”
When it comes to what she plans to do differently going forward, for starters, she feels she will be sharing less online. “So I think that in moving forward, I don’t know if I’ll be sharing on social media like I do now, ‘Oh, I’m going here, I’m going there.’ It changes how you think about everything,” shared Kyle.
She also reveals plans to increase their home security which includes the hiring of two armed guards!
“We actually have an incredible security system in our house. It was just not active at the moment because we’re under construction. We have a state-of-the-art alarm system, an amazing camera system going on,” revealed Kyle. “I have five dogs, who were not home at the time. And now we actually have two armed guards on the property, even though there’s nothing to steal, but it’s just for peace of mind.”
For the time being, Kyle is trying to stay positive. She stated, “it’s been a rough time for my family, but we’re OK, we’re happy and we’re healthy, but it’s been very sad, really sad.”
