Dorinda Medley dishes on which of her former Real Housewives of New York City co-stars she keeps in touch with following her exit and praises “bad*ss” Bethenny Frankel.
Dorinda was fired from RHONY after six seasons on the show, and since then, she’s been fairly candid about how much she misses filming with the ladies. As she reminisced over old photos with her former co-stars in a recent interview, she explained that she tries to give the current cast space while they’re filming, but she does keep in touch.
“I try to be very respectful when the girls are filming because, you know, it’s very hard when you’re in that world,” she told Us Weekly. “It is, like, going off and doing your thing and you always know you’re going to see them again.”
The 56-year-old revealed that she still occasionally speaks with Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan, and she recently had a lunch date with Leah McSweeney.
“I’ll touch base with Luann and touch base with Sonja, but at the end of the day, you don’t want to be intrusive to the process,” she claimed. “I know myself, when you’re in it, it’s sometimes hard to jump. But Leah called the other day and said, ‘I’m going to be on the Upper East Side. Would you love to meet for lunch?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’d love to.’ And we met. We went to one of my favorite places.”
“I was so sincerely happy to see her and she was so sincerely happy to see me,” Dorinda continued. “You know what’s nice, is when you can meet someone that you’ve met on the Housewives and not talk only about the Housewives. You know, I walked away [from that lunch] thinking, we are actually friends.”
Then, Dorinda was shown a picture of Bethenny, and she immediately began to gush over the Skinnygirl mogul before admitting that the two of them can “talk about dirty laundry for hours.”
“I love Bethenny. Bethenny is a powerhouse,” she stated. “She’s an endless learning curve that girl, and you could just listen to her forever. She’s a unique character, strong. What a businesswoman. I admire her.”
As fans likely know, most of the RHONY women had a difficult time forming a strong, authentic relationship with Bethenny, but according to Dorinda, she didn’t have that problem and they have become extremely close.
“You kinda have to peel an onion to become close to someone. It’s a process and we’ve gone through the process. We just really liked each other. I really admire her. We’re very dear friends. We’re very close. I love Bethenny. She is a character — I love a good character. [A] bad*ss, that girl.”
