90 Day Fiancé’s Nikki and Mark Shoemaker Call It Quits After Six Years of Marriage, Plus Why They Broke Up

It has finally happened, 90 Day Fiance’s Mark and Nikki Shoemaker have ended their rocky romance and have officially filed for divorce. The couple called it quits after six years of marriage, which began with the recording of their engagement on 90 Day Fiance Season 3 back in 2015.

Mark officially filed for divorce from Nikki on March 2nd in Baltimore County Court, according to court records located by E! News. The filing also noted that a prenuptial agreement was in the record, as apparently, Mark had put one in place before tying the knot with Nikki.

The two have no shared children together so there was no custody dispute. But one additional interesting fact noted is that the divorce filing apparently cited “adultery” as the reason for the divorce according to an exclusive by In Touch. Since Mark was the official filer, that means that Nikki…allegedly had an affair.

While the announcement of the divorce was abrupt, it was not entirely unexpected. The couple first got together in Season 3 of 90 Day Fiance when Mark traveled from the U.S. to the Philippines to meet Nikki after connecting with her online. After only two days of getting to know each other in person, Mark surprised Nikki by proposing with a joke zip tie ring. Nikki agreed, and the two began making wedding plans.

But many fans had their doubts about the couple from day one. Aside from their language and cultural barriers, the couple also had a 39 year age gap, which is one of the biggest in 90 Day Fiance history. With Mark being 58 at the time and Nikki being a tender 19, the age difference got a lot of attention. In fact, Nikki is actually younger than Mark’s youngest daughter, which created a lot of fan backlash for the couple. In fact, the backlash was so bad, the two even filed a lawsuit against TLC claiming that the show’s editing painted them in an unfavorable light.

The lawsuit was eventually thrown out, and little has been heard from them since.  After all, the couple was debuted on the show’s 3rd season and it is now entering its 9th season so the pair has flown well below the radar for several years. Until now that is…

Neither Mark nor Nikki have commented on their split, and neither has known social media accounts, so further details of the divorce and alleged affair are unknown. But between the couple’s age, language, and cultural gaps, many fans felt this divorce was forthcoming long ago.
