Love is Blind couple Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones are divorcing.
After falling for one another amid the second season of the Netflix series and celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary earlier this year, Iyanna, 28, has taken to her Twitter page to explain the reason behind her divorce from Jarrette, 32, with whom she confirmed the split with a joint statement on Instagram.
“Damn so love isn’t as blind as we thought,” a fan wrote after learning of the news.
“No it is, depending on the people. But marriage is more than love and unfortunately we were incompatible on everything else. But we tried our best,” Iyanna wrote on Twitter on August 17.
Then, after a second person wrote to Iyanna, saying their split was “sad” and noting that the two of them “seemed happy” on Instagram, Iyanna further explained her and Jarrette’s breakup.
“We were,” Iyanna replied, “but our lives are moving in such different directions. I wish love was enough for marriage but we realized the hard way it isn’t.”
Iyanna and Jarrette first confirmed their plans for divorce with a joint statement on Instagram.
It read, “After much thought, we’re saddened to share that we have separated and will begin the process of divorcing. While we have love for each other, our lives are going in different directions and that’s OK. Coming to this decision was far from easy and we will always wish each other the absolute best. We hope you all will give us some space as we close this chapter of our lives. Thank you to our close friends and family for loving us both through our experience. To the Love Is Blind family and Netflix, thank you for this unforgettable opportunity and support.”
“Each of you have brought overwhelming love and joy into our lives,” they added. “This experience has taught us so much about ourselves, vulnerability and love. We don’t regret a single thing!”
Although Jarrette was initially attracted to Mallory Zapata, 32, as well, he told Us Weekly in March that Iyanna was a “better fit.”
“She’s everything that I needed,” he gushed at the time. “On paper, me and Mal would’ve worked out. … I think with Iyanna — she was vastly different and I think those differences are things that I needed in my life to help me grow and be a better person and be a better husband.”
