Another Sister Wife bites the dust.
In a new teaser clip for TLC’s Sister Wives’ upcoming special, “Sister Wives: One on One,” the family patriarch Kody Brown can be seen announcing his separation from wife Janelle Brown, who was one of his three remaining partners after Christine Brown ended their union last year.
In the clip, both Janelle and Kody confirm the news. Kody tells the host, “Yes, we are separated.” Janelle adds that the two have been separated “for months.”
Viewers will remember that Janelle and Kody have been struggling for a while now. It seems that Janelle has been questioning whether the polyamorous union still works for her current direction in life as she has gained more independence over the past year.
“In the last 18 months, I’ve realized that I’m pretty good. I’m independent, and I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at. I just don’t need it. I don’t deserve it, and I don’t need it,” Janelle said.
The “yelling” and ridiculing have taken their toll on Janelle, who refuses to be “beaten into submission.”
“This is the same ol’ argument. I don’t need to be beaten into submission, made to kowtow. I’m just not. I just don’t need this,” she said after Kody accused her of not following the family’s “strict rules.”
In the sneak peek, Christine appears to agree with Janelle, saying, “For Janelle, I think that she’s frustrated and she’s so hurt and that man that she was married to is totally different, and she’s different [now] too.”
“I never thought that I would ever be in a place where I would be questioning my relationship, but the last few years, I began to wonder if we’re compatible anymore,” Janelle said in an episode that aired in early December. “Maybe this doesn’t work anymore for me. I don’t know.”
Since the split, Kody seemingly has no plans for reconciliation, and during the special, he says that Janelle “has made it pretty clear to me that she’s enjoying life without me.”
What does seem to be working for Janelle is her new 2023 fitness goals. On December 12, she posted on Instagram that now is the time for her to “put [her] health first,” and she proclaimed that “2023 is my year!”
In the caption of the post, Janelle stated, “At what point do you decide its time…time to put your health first? Because this has been a game changer. I’m coming for you 2023.”
She added, “I’m ready for you 2023!” And she also said, “This health journey I’ve been on has been incredible. The results weren’t overnight and I’m okay with that. It’s all about slow and steady that wins the race. 2023 is my year!”
