Demi Engemann’s husband, Bret Engemann, once faced charges of domestic violence.

As Jessi Ngatikaura explained the meaning behind Demi’s NSFW season one story about Fruity Pebbles, a report surfaced in which Bret was accused of criminal mischief against his ex-wife, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum Angie Harrington, 43, just days before she filed documents to end their 7-year marriage.

According to a November 25 report from The U.S. Sun, Angie called the cops on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast member in February 2010 after a fight at their home, during which Bret broke her cell phone.

In a police report, it was noted that officers responded to a “report of domestic violence.”

“Officers found that Bret Engemann became upset during an argument with his estranged wife, and threw her cell phone, breaking it,” the report stated.

Prior to the argument, Angie had been out and Bret was home watching their two sons, Rome, now 25, and Cole, now 18.

“She said when she returned home, he was going to leave, but she asked him to spend the night in the room across the hall because she was nervous to be home alone,” shared the report. “Bret started to look through her phone and found some text messages from another man … Bret became jealous and enraged over the text messages.”

Angie alleged that Bret “began yelling and cursing at her and she became frightened,” which led her to believe she should call for police.

“But he threw her cell phone, breaking it before she could call,” the report noted. “Angie said she wasn’t sure whether he threw and broke the phone with the intent of preventing her from calling the police, or if he threw it and broke it just because he was mad at her.”

During their visit to the home, officers advised Angie to get a protective order if she feared Bret could get violent, and in turn, Angie “said her attorney had actually spoken with her in the past about seeking a protective order.”

Because Bret had fled to his sister’s home, police later turned up there, where he confessed to breaking Angie’s phone.

“Bret admitted he became upset over text messages, and said he did throw and break the phone when he found the text messages from the other man,” read the report, adding that Bret also told police Angie had “had an affair with this man, but she had recently sworn to Bret that the affair was over.

“Bret said he also had spoken with the man who also gave his word that he would never contact Angie again,” the report continued.

On the night of the incident, Bret said Angie wanted him to stay over because she was afraid to be home alone.

“Bret said they were lying on her bed together when he started looking through her phone. He said there were numerous recent text messages between Angie and the other man,” the report explained. “While he was holding the home phone and her cell phone, he was yelling at her, cursing and calling her names he had never called her before. He said he underhand tossed the home phone to her, but she had her head turned and it landed on the floor,” according to the report. “Bret said he then saw another text message from the other man that said something about the man being at Angie’s house and that he was waiting for her. Bret said this hurt him even more, and in anger, he threw Angie’s cell phone across the room.

“He said he did not break the phone to prevent her from calling the police. He said he just threw it because he was mad, and it felt good to throw it and break it because of all the messages that were on it,” the report added.

After speaking with Bret, police opted against arresting him, and, while he was issued a misdemeanor as part of a plea deal, the charges against him were ultimately dropped.

Per their divorce, Bret and Angie agreed to share joint custody of their children. And, because Angie was making no money at the time, Brett agreed to provide $1,800 per month in child support and $1,000 monthly in alimony for the first four years after their divorce.

In other SLOMW news, Jessi took to her Instagram Story earlier this week to clear up any lingering misunderstandings surrounding Demi’s Fruity Pebbles innuendo amid their ongoing feud.

“It’s because it apparently tastes like Fruity Pebbles, which, I’m not gonna yuck your yum, but that’s weird,” she began, as seen in a clip shared by The Mormon Wives Report on Instagram on November 25.

Jessi went on to hint at a potential reveal of something unforgivable that Demi did to her at the reunion.

“There’s so much history here. Obviously, I am fed up for a reason. There are things in the reunion you will see, hopefully, of why I feel the way I do,” she teased. “She did something to me that I feel was unforgivable and was like, super insensitive. And hopefully, we’ll see that play out when the reunion plays out in just a few days.”

“But yeah, if I end up with Brett driving by my house tonight or them trying to break in and kill me, you know who did it,” she concluded.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season three reunion premieres on Thursday, December 4, on Hulu.
