As Craig Conover, 36, agreed that he felt “icky” seeing the two of them together, and Shep Rose, 45, reflected on the drama he faced with Audrey due to the rumors he repeated about their romance, Madison, 35, explained why she was “[grossed] out” by Austen, 38, and Audrey, and Austen defended their attendance at Rodrigo’s bash.
“They gross me out. Austen is my friend. I hear him venting. Craig hears it as well. Poor thing. He’s just blowing smoke,” Madison shared on the January 21 episode of the Southern Charm: After Show.
“Once you know that someone’s not into another person, and when you see them together, it feels, like, icky,” Craig agreed.
After Madison and Craig reflected on Austen’s clear hesitancy when it came to his relationship with Audrey, Shep wondered why Austen didn’t bring his concerns to her.
“I found out that he had had a conversation with Madison, basically expressing that he didn’t know where this relationship is gonna go,” he noted, “so not exactly a positive momentum conversation.”
While Austen didn’t confide in Shep, Shep found it odd that he ventured all the way to Charlotte with Audrey if he had no real interest in staying together, especially since so many people knew how he was feeling and pitied her.
“I thought, ‘Okay, here’s the chance, my friend. You have every opportunity right now for reasons A, B, C, all that.’ [But] the guy goes up there and bolsters the relationship against all rationality and then brings her to a party,” he stated. “He could avoid all this awkwardness because she’s walking around, and everybody, like, feels sorry. It’s a bad situation, and he somehow invites her into the lion’s den.”
“It was such a dopey move, in my opinion,” he added.
Meanwhile, Austen insisted he didn’t want Audrey to be put in a situation where someone “[wagged] a finger in her face or [did] something” as he defended their attendance.
“I’m in a relationship, and I’m not gonna hide it. She loves Rod and [Tyler Dugas] … [So] Audrey and I have, like, just as much, you know, right and reason to be here, you know, than almost anybody. So, it definitely was like we don’t have to, like, explain ourselves to anybody,” he noted.
According to Austen, he has been “way more nervous to go to other parties” when it came to a potential confrontation, and he didn’t expect Audrey to face off with Shep.
“[Audrey] had things to say. And she had things to say to Shep,” he recalled.
“She took me to task,” Shep agreed. “[And] I’ve never seen her angry before, really this animated. She was basically like, ‘Why are you spreading rumors?’ [And] I take full responsibility.”
Looking back on what had been said, Shep said he hoped the buzz would go away on its own before Craig spilled the beans.
“Craig weaponized it,” he shared. “[And] I felt bad because she was like, beleaguered. She was in the lion’s den.”
