Shep Rose spoke about the ongoing tension between Craig Conover and Austen Kroll during an appearance on Monday.
As he also offered an update on his dating life, spoke of his new home, named the best and worst roommates on the Southern Charm cast, and teased his second book, which is based on his ayahuasca journey, the 45-year-old reflected on the drama Craig, 36, and Austen, 38, faced amid season 11 and shared what he believed was their real issue.
“I do [think they’ll eventually bury the hatchet],” Shep confirmed on NBC4 New York on February 2.
According to Shep, Craig and Austen should focus on their “good times.”
“It’s a net positive. Trust me,” he stated. “[But] unfortunately, they just don’t see eye to eye, and it’s funny because they both kind of say the same things about each other in certain instances.”
“So I think it can be repaired, but you gotta be contrite in this world and apologetic, even maybe if you’re not sure what you did,” he continued. “It’s real, and I take pride in that in Southern Charm. We are not acting. This is some deep-seated stuff, and I think things have come to a head.”
Regarding what he believed to be the real reason behind their feud, Shep said that Austen was likely sick of taking a back seat to their co-star.
“I think for a long time, Austen was in the sidecar of Craig driving the motorcycle, and I think Austen’s had enough of that. But he jumped in the sidecar for many years, happily. Maybe he needs his own motorcycle,” Shep suspected.
After being asked about his dating life, Shep confirmed he was on the market.
“I’m dating, with intention, I’m proud to say, and my new home … I think that’s sort of a precursor to maybe something more permanent, but I keep saying this. In five years, you have every right to be like, ‘What the hell were you talking about?’” he joked.
As Southern Charm fans may have seen, Shep is getting help from his interior designer castmate, Rodrigo Reyes, 41, with his new home.
“It’s going great. I love the neighborhood. It’s so cool. My cousin and his family are across the street. My college buddy is down the road. It’s quiet, and I love it. So Rod really helped me this season,” he shared.
That said, he is set to be homeless for six or seven months as renovations continue, which could lead him back to a co-star’s house.
“Craig’s actually a good roommate cuz he’s always ordering Uber Eats, and he’s got the burgers on the grill. I’m like, ‘This is great.’ I would say [Whitney Sudler-Smith] is not the best, and here’s why: That house, there’s not really any place to get comfortable. It’s like a museum, so you’re not sure what to do with your downtime,” he revealed.
Moving on to his second book, Shep revealed that people are “very curious” about ayahuasca.
“I wrote about why I decided to go do ayahuasca in Costa Rica. I was sort of spiraling, and I had a very intense, revelatory time there, and I was journaling a lot there, and I was sending it to friends, and they were like, ‘You gotta keep going. This is fascinating.’ So I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll do a book,’” he recalled.
He then said that when it comes to his castmates, Austen was most in need of his own ayahuasca journey.
“I think Austen would greatly benefit from it,” he stated.
Southern Charm season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
