Sai De Silva’s husband, David Craig, filed for divorce on Thursday morning after eight years of marriage and two children, daughter London, 14, and son Rio, 8.
Amid production on the upcoming 16th season of The Real Housewives of New York City, and just weeks after Sai, 45, was announced as one of the three women returning, with the others being Erin Lichy, 38, and Jessel Taank, 46, David made moves to end their marriage.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six on April 2, David made his April 2 filing in New York City.
David’s request for the dissolution of his marriage to Sai comes just one year after the couple faced rumors of an impending split. Last March, after announcing that she was searching for a new apartment, Sai reacted to questions about whether she and David were calling it quits.
“Girl you’re going to make everyone think you’re getting a divorce!” someone had written to her in a comment.
“What?! Girls I’m NOT getting a divorce because I’m looking for apartments,” Sai replied. “Stop jumping to conclusions. I’ll tell you about it later, it’s really not an interesting story to be honest.”
Months prior, Sai had explained why David was rarely seen alongside her on RHONY.
“He’s just not a househusband! He’s not into the cattiness of the girls, he doesn’t like to get involved in something that is just women, it’s just not really his thing … I like the fact that you see us in a family setting, but I don’t think it’s necessary for him to go to so-and-so’s birthday party,” she told The Daily Best.
While Sai and David, who met in Costa Rica in 2009 and got married in 2017, kept their marriage off the show, for the most part, he did speak candidly about what attracted him to her in a video shared to her YouTube page in 2020.
“I was pretty smitten with her right away,” David admitted. “I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I ever saw. She was confident. She was funny. She shared a lot of the same sort of views on life … So it started off with a great attraction but when I knew she was the one after dating her for a while, just knowing someone that is that driven … it’s a very attractive quality to have in a partner.”
“When I saw her drive and her passion and her total outlook on life, I just knew this was a woman that I would want to spend the rest of my life with,” he added.
No word yet on a premiere date for The Real Housewives of New York City season 16.
