Kelsey Swanson addressed the speculation about her love life after last week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.
Amid questions from her castmates and fans, Kelsey revealed if she and her mystery man, rumored to be John Caprio, son of the late judge Frank Caprio, were in a polygamous relationship while also explaining their dynamic and addressing the other men in her life and the other women in his life.
“There was somebody who was also occupying my time when my boyfriend was not around and when he was with somebody else. Why do you have to label it?” Kelsey asked on the April 5 episode of the RHORI: After Show.
According to Kelsey, if she had to label her relationship, she’d label it polyamorous, which describes an arrangement in which multiple partners are involved, but with consent.
“I was in a relationship with a man, okay? This man ended up having — not at the same time, but later on — another person was involved for the first five years. That was it. Were there other people involved, probably, after that? Yeah. But it wasn’t like, ‘Okay, we’re in a polygamous relationship. It is the three of us. We are doing this, and we’re gonna go out together and have a great time.’ No. It was just, I’m not gonna worry about what’s happening down there; she’s not gonna be worrying about what’s happening up here,” she explained, noting that she never described her relationship as polygamous.
“That’s not what I label my relationship, and it’s what I never labeled it. Me and the guy who came about, that wasn’t like, ‘Okay, he’s my boyfriend, he’s my boyfriend, and we’re, like, polygamous together.’ I know it was entertaining for them to talk about, but it’s really not that exciting,” she insisted.
Kelsey then confirmed that she and her boyfriend were never monogamous.
“At the very beginning of my relationship, I knew it wasn’t serious; like, we weren’t exclusive. I would never sleep with men. Like, that was never my thing. I never grew up that way. And so, yeah, I would go out, I’d get drunk, I’d, like, make out with a dude. [But] that was the extent of that,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Rhode Island season one airs Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo.
