Teddi Mellencamp shared an update amid her battle with stage-four cancer as the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum admitted she was “really scared.”
Four years ago, Teddi was diagnosed with melanoma. Last year, doctors had to remove multiple tumors in her brain. A few months later, she shared that the melanoma had advanced to stage four. Throughout her journey, she’s consistently had immunotherapy treatment.
In a series of recent Instagram videos, Teddi shared that she was getting an MRI and a CAT scan. The first few videos were taken before Teddi knew the results.
“So ever since I was diagnosed with stage four cancer, I get immunotherapy monthly, and I was getting CAT scans and MRIs monthly,” she said. “But this past time, they decided they’re going to wait three to four months in between the test. This has created such a nervous, raging anxiety inside of me. … I just keep crying.”
“I wanna be like those people that just say they’re positive all the time, but I’m really scared,” Teddi continued, choking up. “It’s also like really lonely, guys. And I’ve just hit that point where I’m just like exhausted.”
She then shared a video of her doctor explaining the results.
“The scans show no evidence of tumor in your body,” said the doctor. “When you came, you had tumors in your brain and in your lungs. We don’t see those now. There’s evidence that you’ve had treatment, and there’s evidence that the immunotherapy has helped you. What does that mean? You’ve had a complete response to therapy.”
“Does that mean you’re in remission? Yes, remission is a very, you know, nebulous word. If people asked me to tell them how I would speak to your benefit, I would say the following: You’ve had the best outcome we could hope for,” he said. “We’re dealing with some of the side effects of the therapy that you’ve had. As we move forward, the longer that you remain in this state, the better it is for you. And the data that we have is, at three years, if there is no progression, nothing new, at three years, you have a greater than 95% chance.”
Teddi then reminded her followers to “get your skin checks.” Though she’ll still be getting immunotherapy, Teddi said she’ll now try to view the treatment as “my friend who saved my life.”
