Former Jon and Kate Plus 8 star Collin Gosselin, who is estranged from his mother, Kate Gosselin, revealed this week he is releasing a book.
The book, which will detail his side of what happened in his life, is titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.
“There were jokes going around that Kate is very nervous about Collin’s book,” they shared. “While she hasn’t commented, if she is indeed nervous, she should be.”
“Her son is finally going to step up and tell everything he experienced in his childhood in his words,” they continued. “Of course she will likely either take one of two paths – ignore it or deny it. But… there will be some explosive stuff. Fans who followed Kate from day 1 are ABSOLUTELY going to want to read this and get his take on who he was really raised by.”
While they admitted Kate “hasn’t commented” on any nervousness about the book, they shared that she “has gotten into it on social media with critics.”
They pointed to a Reddit post entitled “Kate is already losing her mind in regards to Collin’s book.”
In it, a commenter wrote to her, “How can you work for other families with high needs children when you sent your own away? You had years to change your mind and make it right, and you dug your heels in. You don’t deserve peace and comfort. You’re more attached to your dogs than your own kids because you have mental disorders you haven’t dealt with. F*cking disgusting.”
“First, please do not curse on my page,” she responded. “Thank you. Second, you are spouting accusations based on zero facts. You didn’t live our lives, and none of us lived the life that is being portrayed as ‘truth!’ Finally, if you don’t have positive things to say here, please scroll.”
The source responded to Kate’s insistence that none of them lived the life portrayed, brushing it off as “whatever that’s supposed to mean.”
“At the end of the day, Collin is going to finally tell his truth. And thank god for that,” they concluded.
In a conversation with Us Weekly, Collin stated, “My life was always broadcast to millions, but what was actually happening in my life was never shown – in fact, much of it was deliberately kept hidden. For years, other people told my story through headlines, television episodes and public speculation.”
“Now, finally, I’m sharing what was really happening behind the scenes,” he continued. “This book is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced. If my story helps even one person feel less alone or gives them the courage to tell their own, then every difficult page was worth writing.”
In the description for the book, the publisher noted, “Collin is finally sharing the truth about being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for years, and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy. This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, the entourage, and the institutions that allowed one boy to be erased.”
