Recently, it was revealed that Real Housewives of Orange County alum Jeana Keough, 70, has tongue cancer.
Her daughter, Kara Keough Bosworth, 37, initially shared the news alongside a GoFundMe for Jeana.
In the latest heartbreaking update, Kara explained what her mother is currently going through as she attempts to beat her cancer.
Kara detailed that her mother “finished her last radiation treatment yesterday, and we were informed that these next two weeks will be the roughest on her physically as the chemo and radiation are compounding and her body will be at its weakest point.” Kara shared this news on the GoFundMe page, which has raised $75,000 so far out of the $90,000 set goal.
She explained that “the radiation burns have now made it to the outer skin” of Jeana’s neck, “and even putting medicated cream on the area with the gentlest of touches causes her wincing pain.”
Jeana still cannot really swallow food or liquids due to the area being so sensitive.
“We’re rocking and rolling with the feeding tube and I can feed her in the dark while she sleeps at this point and she’s stopped losing weight,” Kara continued. “This is a win and we’re taking it as such.”
She added that their family is “still trying to find a nausea treatment that might prevent the painful vomiting but haven’t found the perfect solution yet.”
Kara called this “another win,” detailing that “for the last two days, I was able to coerce her to take one sip of water – a very important task so she doesn’t lose her swallow function. The pain is excruciating and she refuses narcotics so it’s unfortunately a really tough challenge to accept.”
This was supposedly the hardest part of Jeana’s treatment, and with this now over, Kara is now heading back to Florida where her family resides.
Her younger brother, Colton, 34, and his wife, Francheska, will be coming to care for Jeana.
“Colton is there in Orange County caring for her, and Shane and his wife Francheska fly in this weekend for a changing of the guards,” Kara shared. “Nurse Francheska will put us all to shame with her dressing changing, no doubt!”
She concluded the update on her mother by thanking everyone for their “continued love and support,” and she claimed that “every message brings us all so much comfort.”
