Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans were shocked when it was reported earlier this year that Whitney Rose was separating from her husband, Justin Rose.
This month, Whitney, 40, confirmed the news.
In the currently airing seventh season of RHOSLC, Whitney claimed alcohol was not serving her any longer and said she was cutting it out of her life.
In a recent interview on the Gabbing With Gib podcast, Whitney opened up more about her relationship with drinking.
As for why she was drinking so much, Whitney explained it was because she was “hiding and stuffing what was going on in my personal life, in my marriage. And I was scared — I didn’t want anyone to know because I didn’t even know.”
“So yeah, the drinking was in excess because I was just coping with it,” she continued. “But I was able to take a step back and realize that I can take it or leave it. If it’s not serving me, I don’t need it. And I have a much better relationship with alcohol now. And taking the break really helped me understand… the problem wasn’t so much drinking; the problem was that I’m not working through the elephant in the room: my marriage.”
Whitney also recently spoke to Out and addressed comments her co-star Meredith Marks made when the news about her separation came out.
“It’s ironic when you see [everything] that has been said about you manifest in the people who said it. Much more to come on this subject, but people who spread negativity about an aspect of someone else’s life usually are insecure of that in their own life. 2026 has been a year of karma in so many different ways,” Meredith, 54, posted on Threads on July 22.
“Let me be clear for those of you who are trying to read too deeply into my comment,” she later added. “I do not wish ill upon anyone or celebrate anyone’s demise. But I do note the irony in karma when someone has continually lied about me to hide their own truths. As I said you don’t even know about many of the issues I am referencing here but I do believe in karma and I do hope all the people in my life find their own happiness, whatever that means for them.”
“I don’t want to hurt my friends!” Whitney began. “Something that I’m learning how to do is standing up for myself. Especially with Meredith and Lisa, I feel like there’s a double standard. My kindness is mistaken for weakness. This season’s apology tour had me exhausted.”
“Meredith, I tried,” she continued. “I gave it my best effort. We do share a beautiful moment later on in the season, but she undid all of that recently when the news broke about Justin and I. It’s pretty hypocritical. It was all undone with her two-faced comment.”
