Andy Cohen got himself into a pickle recently in a conversation with Jeff Lewis on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live.
Andy, 58, shared with Jeff, 56, that he had paid a babysitter $30 per hour to watch his two children.
Jeff noted that sounded “cheap” to him, adding, “especially from someone with your money.”
“She was there for two hours, and you gave her 60 bucks? Did that even cover the cab?” he asked.
“She was there for two hours and fifteen minutes, so I gave her $70,” Andy explained.
Jeff insisted he probably would have paid “$100 for two hours” to watch Andy’s children, and he revealed that he pays his babysitter $37 per hour to watch his one daughter.
Andy addressed the topic on Fox’s Live Zone Primetime recently.
When asked if it was weird to see headlines all over the country due to a conversation he had about how much he paid his babysitter, Andy replied, “Dude, yeah!”
“I didn’t even realize that it had become a thing,” he continued. “I go on the radio, I talk, and then I leave. And then two days later, I’m on the press line at this event, and Page Six is like, ‘Are you going to give your babysitter a raise?’ I’m like, ‘Is this a thing?'”
” So yes, it is surreal,” he continued.
Andy also called the headlines that have come out about the situation “so terrible.”
“They’re like, ‘Millionaire cheapskate Andy Cohen underpays his…’ By the way, this was like a 21-year-old girl that I was trying out, a friend of my… just, anyway, I’m not cheap, and I stand by… what I paid her.”
Andy Cohen was referring to a Page Six reporter asking him on Tuesday at the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame Awards if he felt he was underpaying his sitter.
He noted he had checked with his friends and they were paying similar rates.
When asked if he was feeling like a cheapskate, Andy responded, “I wasn’t till we started talking about it on the radio. You’re making me feel like one.”
