On this season of The Real Housewives of New York City, Sai de Silva is going through a tough time with her now-estranged husband, David Craig.
While Sai, 45, had opened up to some of her castmates about issues they were having, on last night’s episode she found out that David had filed for divorce. This was not something she had known before finding out from people texting her, as it had been published online.
In a conversation on Bravo’s RHONY After Show podcast, Sai opened up more about the way David filed for divorce.
“I asked for a separation,” she began. ” I asked him to go to mediation so we could do it privately, because I didn’t want the world to know. More importantly, I didn’t want the children to know quite yet. But I had no idea that this was coming.”
Sai noted the timing of David’s filing “felt calculated” to her.
“He wanted to have the kids during spring break,” she continued. “My aunt just left the day before, and my support system is my aunt. He did ask me several times when she’s leaving, and I’m like, ‘What difference does it make?’ The same day she left was the same day he filed, so I would be alone when I found out. And that was like… just hit me in my gut. I needed to speak to my daughter immediately, cause I didn’t know if he told her. I know that I didn’t, and I let her know.”
Sai added, “And she… she’s very grown up, and she took a sigh, and she took a beat, and she was just like, ‘Are you okay?’ And then she said, ‘It’s all right, Mommy. Like, it’s going to be fine.’ She was like, ‘At least we can all be happy now.'”
As for whether she called David after finding out, Sai shared she did not.
“I did not call, I did not text, I did not communicate whatsoever,” she noted. “In a way… he was reaching out for me to get a huge reaction. And in that moment, it was almost like I’ve disconnected from someone I’ve known for so many years that if you could do something like this to me like that, like in such a… I want to say disgusting way, cause that is what it is to me, then you know what? I’m moving forward, and all I care about are my children. And I didn’t call.”
Sai also shared she feels “very supported” by some of her castmates, and “for the most part” she did feel that, when this occurred, she “was not alone.”
