90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Day’s Ben Rathbun and Mahogany Roca are probably the most controversial couple of the season. Between the couple’s age difference, language barriers, and the small fact that many of Ben’s friends and family(and fans) think Mahogany isn’t real, this couple has a lot to overcome.
In the latest episode of 90 Day Fiance, we watched as Ben sat in shock in the airport terminal about to board the plane for Peru, as Mahogany text him not to come. Ben was heartbroken but boarded the plan anyway in hopes Mahogany would still be waiting for him on the other end. But as Ben arrived in Peru and waited at their designated meeting spot, it became quickly apparent that Mahogany was not coming.
All of the drama only reaffirmed fans’ opinion that Mahogany was not a real person and was probably catfishing Ben.
But even with all the rumors circulating, it seems that Mahogany is probably real, but it doesn’t seem like she is with Ben.
Mahogany does have social media accounts but she is not followed by Ben and she does not follow him. She also does not post much and none of the other cast members follow her on social media.
In a “questions” story segment where she answered fan’s questions, there was a post asking if she was “Soltero o con alguien” which is Spanish for “single or with someone”, to which Mahogany answers “Soltero”, single.

Mahogany’s Facebook page also lists her status as “Single.” So it seems pretty clear if she and Ben do meet up, they do not last.
Ben’s Instagram is verified and followed by many of the 90 Day Fiance group, which makes us wonder if Mahogany is ever actually featured in person on the show.
Ben’s Instagram does mention 90 Day Fiance but has no mention of Mahogany and any posts about the show are more about his point of view and experience. Mahogany is not tagged or featured in any of his posts. He does mention her in a roundabout way in one of his post captions where he says one of the most frequently asked questions he receives is “Is she real?”

It’s an understandable question as not only is 24-year old Peruvian Mahogany significantly younger than 52-year-old Michigan native, Ben, but she also has never been seen in person. She refuses to video chat with Ben, claiming she is “shy” and her Instagram is full of very photoshopped pictures. She also has requested money from Ben and appears to be inconsistent with wanting him to come to visit in person, as Ben tried to visit once before with her asking him to cancel mere days before his flight. These two remind us of Season 2’s Ricky and Melissa, as many fans also felt Melissa was a catfish as she refused to video chat with Ricky. But Melissa turned out to be very real, so it is possible Mahogany is too.
Ben and Mahogany connected online after Mahogany saw a photo of Ben, who works as a fitness model, in a magazine and reached out to him. Ben’s friends and family, including his own children, worry it may be a catfishing situation, as that has happened to Ben before.
But Ben holds firm that Mahogany is real and their love is “God’s plan” despite doubts from his family, friends, and the fans.

However, in previews for the upcoming episode, it shows Ben himself having some doubts as he sits waiting for Mahogany to show up for a date after she never came to the airport.
So is Mahogany real? It looks like we will soon find out, but assuming she is real, it is clear she and Ben are not still together.
