Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon addressed viewers who questioned their style choices and responded to fans accusing the show of ‘colorism.’
This season on the Real Housewives of Potomac, many viewers have questioned the friends’ treatment of Wendy Osefo amid her drama with Mia Thornton, who threw a drink at her face. After the scene aired, Wendy called out the fan base over a lack of outrage and seemed to indicate that colorism was a factor.
In an interview with The Root, Gizelle and Robyn were asked about their controversial style choices.
“I dress for me. I decorate my house for me,” answered Gizelle. “That’s all I can tell you.”
Robyn added, “I mean, I would like to say, I just have like a more of a simple style. So, you know … I just choose to be kinda understated and simple.” She and Gizelle shared they don’t spend “hours” in front of glam to prepare for filming, like some of their Bravo colleagues.
“I don’t have time for that,” said Gizelle, before Robyn referred to castmates from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, claiming “half of the time” they’re in full glam during cast trips.
“Like the glam is so much a part of [that cast’s] life that they’re filming them in glam, because they spend so much time in glam,” said Robyn, insinuating that she and Gizelle choose not to spend their time like that.
When asked about the ‘colorism’ conversation, Robyn pointed out that the discussion was not taking place on the show, only on “social media.”
Though Gizelle said people are “entitled” to their own opinion, she “know[s]” this is “not the case” on the show, and added, “I don’t really get it.”
Robyn shared she doesn’t “read what is being said” online, though she’ll notice it every once in a while.
“I don’t understand where it comes from when watching the show,” said Robyn.
