Bravo released the hilarious trailer for The Real Housewives of New York City alum’s new show, Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, on Monday. The show sees the ladies leave the high society of Manhattan behind to try and rejuvenate the small Midwestern town of Benton, Illinois.
The small lakeside community of less than 7,000 has been ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonja and Luann arrive in the sweltering summer heat and are tasked with boosting the town’s morale and tourism.
As the trailer opens, Luann remarks, “Oh my god, we’re gonna sweat like a whore in church here.”
Their situation soon becomes all too real as they arrive at the small hotel where they’ll be staying and renovating during the duration of their trip. It’s all very Schitt’s Creek.
“I’m not going to blurt out ‘WTF’ because that’s what I’m thinking,” Sonja says of their new digs during one of her confessionals.
Soon enough, shenanigans and hijinks ensue as Sonja and Luann are tasked with building a new park, throwing a “Christmas in July” event, increasing the town’s tourism, upgrading an animal shelter, and giving an “end of the summer performance.”
“We’re never afraid to get our hands dirty,” Sonja quips to Benton’s mayor.
And things get dirty fast! Sonja and Lu are metaphorical fish out of water, but that’s not going to stop them from grabbing some from the lake as the new series sees the pair wrangling catfish by hand.
The crowning moment comes when Luann and Sonja attend the town’s “Testicle Festival,” and Lu chows down on a cow testicle.
“That’s disgusting,” Sonja exclaims. Lu says it’s “not bad,” but she worries about having “testicle breath.”
Of course, this is Luann and Sonja we’re talking about, so romance is not out of the realm of possibility.
Sonja seems to hit it off with a local guy named Billy, who Sonja says is “[her kind of man].”
At one point, Luann asks Sonja, “Did you have sex?”
Leading Sonja to confess, “Holy s—t, I got my pipes cleaned!”
However, Sonja has some competition in Luann as Billy’s also caught her eye, and she is seen landing a quick smooch on the man.
Naturally, the ladies run into some issues. They encounter a problem when trying to install the new playground for the town as well as low ticket sales for their grand end-of-the-summer finale event. In a surprising twist, Luann and Sonja enlist the help of pop icon Paula Abdul to come and help.
It’s the end of the trailer for me, as Sonja pulls one of the most “Sonja” moves ever and sings into a vibrator like a microphone.
