Katie Ginella feels that she’s held to a “higher standard” than her castmates on The Real Housewives of Orange County.
As she admitted to making mistakes on the show, discussed a potential setup, and looked ahead to season 20, Katie, 41, explained her thoughts going into season 19 after season 18 saw her at odds with Emily Simpson, 49, over comments Emily had allegedly made to her kids about their co-star, Heather Dubrow, 56.
“[I thought], ‘I’m gonna come in and apologize and maybe I can get some apologies too and we can try to move forward,'” Katie recalled to Us Weekly. “The things with Emily [were] very unfortunate … [But] I just feel like a lot of this is me being held to a higher standard and a different set of rules than everybody else.”
“I just think they don’t know me, and they’re always moving the goal posts of what’s okay and what’s not okay,” she continued.
While Katie made a point to go into last year’s reunion telling the truth and trying to make amends, her appearance didn’t go as planned.
“I was eaten alive. So that was me going into this season, my second season, is I’ve gotta be more prepared,” she explained. “I made some mistakes that I’ve definitely learned from that I cannot do again. But I just felt that need to almost be in this game with these women.”
According to Katie, she often found herself “trying to find [her] spot” in the group, especially after her friendship with Jennifer Pedranti, 49, came to an end amid filming on season 19, which saw her getting caught in the middle of the “naked wasted” drama between Tamra Judge, 58, and Gretchen Rossi, 46.
Although some have accused the RHOC cast of ganging up on Katie, Katie believes it was one specific person who had it out for her.
“I do think it came from one person that maybe set me up for something and made other people believe something untrue about me,” she reasoned.
Then, confirming she will be attending the reunion and BravoCon, Katie suggested fans would like to see her back for season 20.
“A lot of people are saying, ‘If Katie comes back, I won’t,’ so maybe we should just all read the comments and see who they want to come back,” she stated.
The Real Housewives of Orange County season 19 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
