Wendy Osefo wants the fraud charges brought against her earlier this month dismissed.
Nearly two weeks after she and husband Eddie Osefo, 41, were arrested on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy fraud, and making a false statement to a police officer, it is being reported that the Real Housewives of Potomac star, also 41, has accused police of an “illegal” arrest.
According to an October 22 report from Us Weekly, Wendy’s lawyer filed documents in court on October 17 in which they demanded all charges be thrown out due to alleged “defects in the charging document” and requested all evidence be “suppressed because of an unlawful search or seizure.”
They also asked for all communications to be “suppressed because of an unlawful interception” and said that “all admissions, statements or confessions” should be banned as evidence since “they were unlawfully obtained.”
Additionally, Wendy’s attorney requested that the “trial of co-defendants be severed from the trial(s) of this Defendant.”
In another court filing, the lawyer demanded that prosecutors turn over any evidence they may have gathered and requested a witness list, as well as any polygraph results of those questioned in the case.
They then asked for information about any confidential informants.
The charges against Wendy and Eddie, who are said to be “burdened by substantial debt,” stem from an alleged home robbery in April 2024, after which they reported numerous items as stolen, even though they supposedly still had them in their possession.
After posting bail and being released from jail, Wendy and Eddie’s rep released a statement to Us Weekly.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits,” it read. “They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
As RHOP fans may have seen, Wendy and Eddie broke their social media silence in regard to the arrest on October 19 with separate statements on Instagram.
“And through it all, GOD remains faithful. Thank you for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers for myself and most importantly my family during this time. We are forever grateful,” Wendy wrote.
Meanwhile, Eddie, who does not yet have an attorney tied to his case, quoted Proverbs 3:5-6, which states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac season 10 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
