Brandon Hanson spoke out on X after the latest episode of The Valley featured him accepting money from his then-girlfriend, Brittany Cartwright.

After facing backlash from fans, who deemed him “lazy” and a “deadbeat,” Brandon, who Brittany, 37, began dating last summer after her messy split from Jax Taylor, 46, defended himself against the online criticism while also sharing where he and Brittany stand and revealing if he got paid for appearing on the Bravo reality show.

“When she’s a millionaire and she wants to help me or give me money to come hang out why would i decline? That one week worth of money paid my rent for the month and put food on the table for my kids. She didn’t have to do anything she offered. It wasn’t a matter of me affording … a week off if I was able to still make half my money at work by using PTO and she covered my bills for the month why would I turn that down? That makes no sense,” Brandon wrote in a couple of posts on June 4.

Then, after a fan noted that it was unfortunate if he got a “bad edit,” but suggested that being on the show went “against what [Brandon was] saying [he was] about,” Brandon fired back at the idea of being a clout chaser.

“My point is if i was a [clout] chaser I’d still be on the show I’d still be trying to date Brittany,” he noted. “We broke up after this scene I haven’t been a part of the show or around since November of last year me and Brittany are still friends in private. I don’t need the clout.”

In another set of posts on X, Brandon confirmed that he had a full-time job and was a small-business owner.

“The last thing anyone that knows me personally would call me is lazy or a deadbeat, and Brittany was fully aware of this when we started dating. Brittany was nothing but sweet and kind to me,” he stated. “We’re still friends. I have a hard time being fake I was true to myself no matter what anyone says or thinks and I can live with that. What’s aired is what gets people talking and ratings it is what it is I’m unbothered.”

“Again,” he continued, “your understanding the context of how this happened is been driving to LA weekly to see her no money involved. She was going to hire a caretaker and instead we discussed me taking time off work to come be there and help her after her surgery that’s how money came into it.”

Although Brittany gave Brandon money to come see her and care for her after her mommy makeover, Brandon said there were plenty of times that he had gone to visit without any money involved.

He also confirmed he was not paid to appear on The Valley.

“I was there every week, sometimes twice a week, for months unpaid because I wanted to be there. I wasn’t paid to be on the show. I wasn’t looking for a payday or asking her for money. She asked if I could be there for a week to help her recover that meant missing time at work,” he concluded.
