Real Housewives of Atlanta star K. Michelle just wrapped her first season on the show after previously starring on Love & Hip Hop.
While some fans had concerns about her joining due to her previous reality TV stint, she held her own.
Now that season 17 has come to a close, Michelle sat down with The Breakfast Club to talk about country music and her stint on the show.
Michelle is getting ready to release her first country album in October and talked about fellow country stars Shaboozey and Morgan Wallen.
On Shaboozey, Michelle, 44, claimed he DM’d her she was “the GOAT.” She also claimed she was cooking pork chops or turkey chops, and he asked if she could cook him some.
Things took a turn soon after, though.
“But when I text you, and I’m – you know I’m not a feature girl – when I text you about a feature, you don’t answer back,” she said, beginning to explain her issues with him. “B*tch, I don’t need no feature from you, ’cause once they find out you don’t like Black women, it’s over for you anyway.”
“Yeah, but… don’t be texting me, calling me ‘the GOAT’ about pork chops and sh*t like that when you need to show urban, you know, show that you’re urban,” she continued later. “And then, I didn’t ask for your phone number. I didn’t reach out to you. I don’t ask anybody for anything. Like, don’t do that. I got Dolly Parton sitting on a record… I don’t ever want to be the bitter artist about a record, ’cause I don’t ever –I don’t ask for a feature. I don’t ask anybody. And you’re texting me about a lot of things, and I talk to you about a record, and then you just go complete numb. I don’t – damn, I don’t care that you have a hit record. I know the longevity in business, and I know you can’t sing.”
Later in the conversation, Michelle referred to Morgan as her “favorite artist” even though he had a controversy for saying the “N word.”
“I heard a song that like completely changed my life as an artist. It’s called Talking Tennessee,” she stated. “And I looked at my husband, I said, ‘I wish you loved me like that.’ So I didn’t know what this song was, it came up, and he released Dangerous. And that album did like a hundred and something thousand, like the first week, and all of that. And so then, this man said ‘n*****.'”
Michelle noted that Morgan likes “barbeque,” but would not defend his use of the word.
“We can’t say the word, we can’t do that. And I said to him, ‘You come to the barbecue, but you can’t go to the barbecue like that.’ And he like, ‘Naw, that ain’t cool. That’s never that cool.’ It’s funny how we pick and choose our outrage,” she elaborated.
“Even loving Black culture and a barbecue, that’s still something that is sensitive to my people, to everything; no matter how cool you are, it’s not a cool thing. It’s a hurtful thing,” she added later on.
She also revealed he ended up inviting her to his concert, and she came dressed in braids and with her breasts pushed up and had never felt so “uncomfortable” as she “watched white women hitting each other” and looking at her and asking things akin to why Michelle was there and who she was.
“Just being Black and knowing all these country songs, and having a white man, like, screaming for you and, like, all of that. I remember I left,” she explained.
Michelle also addressed her stint on RHOA.
“I did not know that the type of fans that this franchise has – like, they are die-hard, like basketball fans,” she stated.
Michelle went on to explain that a “lot of people” didn’t want her on the show because of Love & Hip Hop and because they felt she would “declass” RHOA.
“You know, to see them cause such an uproar about me being there, when from Love & Hip Hop to this, you know, I’ve got keys to cities, days, and done things, and, you know, all types of stuff, but they wanted to put that on me,” she said. “They wanted my past to ride me. So, just imagine, y’all, you, you know, you’re going into something and you’re knowing people are going to assume that you’re going to act a certain way.”
She added, “And when you do need to act that way, you got to second guess, you know, how you’re even acting because you don’t want to prove people right, but at the same time, you do have – you are – I’m signed to the biggest country music label right now in the game. And I got a whole different – other people looking at me. I don’t want to be the angry Black woman – you know, in Nashville either. So a lot of stuff that I would do, I can’t really do anymore.”
Michelle also called out her costars, saying they know how to be “faker” than her.
“Like, they know how to do some stuff, make phone calls behind the scenes, and then sit on camera and look like, ‘What did I do?'” K.Michelle elaborated. “You know, and me, all of my emotions are always right here. I can’t – I’m like, you really going to act like you don’t know what I’m talking about? So that’s when I say ‘play the game.’ Like, you know, things that happen behind the scenes, you got to know how to bring them to the light. I’m trying to get ahead of some stuff, and they’re like, ‘That ain’t how it go.”
She continued, “You got to let it play out. You got to move – be a little bit smoother about it.’ Like you dealing with, you know, some people who ain’t going to be as real as you to your face, ’cause they know they’ve been doing this for years. They know how to look at you and say, “You’re crazy,” and still go get things on you and do things to you. So now I completely understand.”
