The attorney for Luis Ruelas’ ex claimed that Luis once gave him a “jar of pickles” in the middle of a trial to “throw” him “off.” The attorney also shared that the judge was “not too happy” about it, and that move was a “sign of weakness.”

In October 2024, Luis, the husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice, filed court documents accusing his ex of violating a court order that prevented both of them from making defamatory statements against the other on social media. Anton was one of the lawyers representing the ex. In a later filing, Luis asked for Anton to be disqualified from the case because he formerly represented Kim “D” DePaola, who, according to Luis, was a crucial witness at the time.

On Kim D’s podcast, Get Real with Kim D., Anton shared a story about Luis in court.

“Mr. Ruelas gave me a jar of pickles in the middle of a trial,” said Anton. “He just wrote my name, Anton, on it, a big Costco jar, put it in the hallway with my name on it. My paralegal saw him do it.”

Anton said the judge was “not too happy” about it.

“They were delicious,” he went on. Kim then asked if he made sure that the jar was open before he ate them. “I heard the pop [of the jar],” answered Anton.

The attorney indicated that Luis gave him the pickles to try to “throw” him “off.”

“Does it have to do with I’m a sour puss? Does it have to do with phallic size?” he asked. “I mean, who knows what [Luis is] trying to convey, but I thought it was comical and a sign of weakness that he even did it.”

Amid their 2025 case, Luis’ own lawyer argued that Anton should be removed from the trial due to the alleged conflict of interest.

“The ethical concerns surrounding an attorney who is caught between conflicting loyalties — namely, his duty to Defendant [Luis’ ex] and his prior attorney-client relationship with Kim DePaola — undermine the fairness of the proceedings,” said Luis’ lawyer at the time, via Us Weekly. “Given Mr. Anton’s prior representation of Kim DePaola and his ongoing involvement with her in a professional capacity, there is no question that his continued representation of [Luis’ ex] is impermissible under both ethical and legal standards.”

But Anton defended himself, “While I certainly do appreciate the concern, this is simply not the case as the representation of Ms. DePaola in the past on the matters for which I have represented her, in no way affects the current representation of [Luis’ ex]. In fact, it was Ms. DePaola who first referred [the defendant] to me for me to represent her against plaintiff Ruelas years ago when he was unjustly attacking her.”
