Venita Aspen revealed that she almost quit Southern Charm, and she shared how Sutton Stracke played a role in keeping her from doing it. The star also hinted that castmates sometimes “wouldn’t film with me” in her first season.
Last year, Venita had issues with her good friend Salley Carson because Venita was honest about her feelings that Salley shouldn’t pursue Craig Conover. Castmate Charley Manley then had her own romance with Craig, though she broke up with him after she saw how he treated Salley.
“After my first year [on Southern Charm], I actually almost stopped. And it was Sutton Stracke who told me to keep going,” said Venita on Two Ts in a Pod with Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp. “I saw her with my then-boyfriend at the time in the airport. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s Sutton. I have to say something.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t think I can do this anymore.'”
“And she was like, ‘We’re two Southern girls. We can do anything,'” Venita added. “I’m the only one on the show born and raised from Charleston, South Carolina.”
Tamra then reacted, saying, “It’s like the Beverly Hills Housewives. None of them live in Beverly Hills.”
“Sutton did,” added Teddi. “Well, because it’s on a main road.”
Venita said she doesn’t regret anything she said or did last season of the show. When asked if Salley has gotten any better at picking men, Venita answered, “I am choosing to stay out of that.”
Venita did say that she wishes Charley would “speak her mind” a little bit more. “This group isn’t an easy group to get in with,” said Venita, who shared that this was true even for herself when she was a newbie.
“I feel like even for myself, like me being that I was friends with some of them before this even started for me, even that was hard. It was so hard for me,” admitted Venita. “They were like giving me the hardest time. Sometimes they wouldn’t film with me.”
Though Venita and Craig feuded in the past, he recently shared that they started texting and are now in a good place. Last season, however, after Venita sided with Paige DeSorbo amid Paige and Craig’s breakup, Craig suggested that he would never be friends with Venita again.
