The Real Housewives of New York City alum Bethenny Frankel had a very public and turbulent divorce from Jason Hoppy.
As fans know, Bethenny, 55, shares daughter Bryn Hoppy, 16, with Jason, 56.
Yesterday, Bethenny took to social media to share a video advising people not to try to turn their kids against their exes.
“Do not try to turn your kids against your ex,” she stated. “No matter how active, proactive, subtle, no matter how abusive, controlling, problematic your ex is, you will end up turning your kid against you.”
Bethenny noted there are “so many” examples of this and it’s “a long road.”
“Whatever is happening today with you and your kids is not the same thing that will be happening in years to come,” she shared. “Play the long game, do what is best for them. It is hard to see when they’re little, but the best thing for your children is to keep your thoughts, your anger, and your misery to yourself.”
While Bethenny rarely talks about Jason, last month she did open up about him, calling their 10-year battle in court “traumatic.”
“We do coexist on this Earth. We do both exist on this Earth, so that’s positive,” Bethenny stated on an episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast. “It’s been a strained year; it’s been a challenging year.”
“There were a lot of circumstances that have been, that are… torture, like, traumatic,” she noted in regard to their co-parenting arrangement. “Like, 10 years [in court] for a two-year marriage and, like, every single branch on the tree [has been affected].”
As for her relationship with her daughter, though, Bethenny was clear that’s a strong one.
“When you parent, it’s not like you parent, and it happens passively. You take long drives, you hang out, you go to dinner,” she said. “Parents are very transactional and, like, we have the meal, and then we drive; it has to flow. I love her so much, [she’s] the best.”
“When we vibe, and we are watching something, and we’re laughing, we connect, but sometimes we’re on different paths,” she added. “We’re very much like Thelma and Louise, [and] we are like roommates in a way.”
