Katie Maloney spoke of the biggest challenge she’s faced with her and Ariana Madix‘s shared sandwich shop, Something About Her, on the latest episode of her and Dayna Kathan‘s podcast.
As she also revealed where she stood with both Ariana, 41, and Stassi Schroeder, 38, the 40-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum opened up about the obstacles she’s been faced with since opening her business in May 2024.
“It is so expensive. It’s just like you need just big old pockets, beaucoup bucks,” Katie began on Disrespectfully, via Vanderpod Recaps on Instagram.
According to Katie, the biggest lesson she’s learned is to be adaptable.
“I think the biggest thing to learn was also like how things change, and you need to be able to adapt and pivot pretty quickly, and not also like be hard on yourselves. Like it, especially with restaurants or any type of eating establishment, like it is really challenging,” she explained. “The first, they say, two years, I’m gonna say probably more like five years, and to not expect to be profitable immediately, you know what I mean? Like it’s just like you have to just constantly be reinvesting back into the business.”
Although running a business is no easy feat, Katie said that it has been “incredibly rewarding to do stuff that is scary and challenging and difficult.”
Katie went on to say that it has been important to surround herself with a good team at Something About Her.
“Make sure you really find people that you can trust, people who are in it for the long haul with you and just really focusing on building an incredible team that, like, sees the vision and wants to go the distance,” she advised.
Moving on to her relationships with her former Pump Rules co-stars, Ariana and Stassi, Katie first addressed a question from a fan who mentioned a rumor suggesting she hated Ariana.
“There’s no rumors that we hate Ariana … Bizarre,” Katie replied.
As for whether she is still in a good place with Stassi, Katie confirmed, “Yeah, last time I checked.”
“I mean, I know we don’t hang out a lot, but for the most part, yeah, I think we’re okay,” she continued. “Stassi has been so busy. Stassi, she was filming Vanderpump Villa in Austria for a month, and then she’s been in Nashville, and I think she’s in New York now. The girl was, like, never home. I don’t know how she does it all.”
