Heather Dubrow of The Real Housewives of Orange County addressed losing $2 million to a financial scam, calling it a “f**k ton of money,” as she and her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow, revealed how it changed their dynamic.
When Heather and Terry first met, she was a successful actor, and he was a young plastic surgeon. Throughout the years on RHOC, the couple has showcased several of their mansions.
“So we ended up losing $2 million,” said Heather on her Between Us podcast, recalling how a man who they thought was a Certified Public Accountant allegedly got Terry involved in a financial scam. “And I’m not saying $2 million is not a lot of money. It’s a f**k ton of money.”
After the scam, Heather increased her involvement in their finances.
“You were shockingly cool about it,” Terry added. “Sometimes something very negative forces you to change your checks and balances and your systems.”
“100 percent,” Heather agreed. “And I do believe that loss prevented us from doing something larger and stupid down the road.”
According to their podcast’s IG account, the $2 million loss “changed everything” and “saved” them. Though it was a “painful experience” and a “shock,” it led to “smarter money habits, systems, and unexpected life lessons.”
In a 2022 interview for Page Six, Heather hinted at a past rough patch in her marriage.
“We had one really bad, bad year where the show was affecting us,” she said at the time. “I think it may have been the first year Terry was on ‘Botched,’ and so we weren’t together a lot because I was doing ‘Housewives.’”
“I was having a bad season. He was on ‘Botched,’ he was having a good season… and we weren’t communicating. There was just a lot going on, and we had to have a real come-to-Jesus moment and sit down,” she added.
“In our 25 year relationship, we have been through every struggle. Intimacy struggles when I felt bad about myself, financial struggles, and we’ve lost several million dollars. We’ve had other kinds of things with our family,” Terry chimed in. “All the big-ticket items, we have learned how to get through them.”
