Wendy Osefo has been replaced at Wesleyan University following her and her husband Eddie Osefo‘s fraud arrests last week.

After joining the school last fall as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology and teaching this semester’s “The Sociology of Reality TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia” class, the 41-year-old Real Housewives of Potomac star, who was on campus the day before her arrest, has exited the position.

An October 14 report from The Wesleyan Argus confirmed the news, revealing that students in Wendy’s class received an email from Khalilah Brown-Dean, director of the Albritton Center, which named Courtney Patterson-Faye, an Associate Professor of Sociology, as her replacement for the rest of the semester.

“I was literally writing her an email that morning I found out, asking her about an assignment that was supposed to be due this week,” one student, Barry Zheng, said of the news. “I just finished grabbing lunch at Usdan, and I ran into one of my classmates, and he was just like, ‘Yo, did you see the news?’ and I was like, ‘What news?’ and he said our professor got arrested. I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ because I just met her last week. And then he showed me an Instagram post saying she and her husband got arrested for fraud. I couldn’t believe it.”

“[I] felt like she was pretty cool,” he added. “She would crack jokes and stuff.”

Mariah Wilson, the teaching assistant for the class, also spoke out, saying,  “It was a shock. Having taken her class last fall, I didn’t expect it. I hope she’s well, and we’ll find out more once more news comes out.

Wendy and Eddie, 41, who are said to be in “substantial debt,” were arrested on October 9 on charges stemming from a reportedly staged home burglary in April 2024, which saw the couple making $450,000 in insurance claims. As RHOP fans may have heard, Wendy was allegedly caught wearing a gold diamond anniversary ring she’d reported stolen later that month. And in a search warrant, police found at least 15 items she and Eddie claimed had been stolen. Another $20,000 worth of items had been returned to stores.

Following the news of Wendy’s departure from her teaching job at Wesleyan University, the school confirmed she resigned to TMZ, and her rep released a statement, denying she was fired.

“Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University. She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university,” the statement shared. “Dr. Osefo made the voluntary decision to step down from her role. This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac season 10 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
